Unfortunate for the people that have items stored there. Hopefully the fire will be put out soon.

Would you have to take insurance or otherwise it's at your own risk?

Never stored anything but are people covered in insurance for their stuff if it gets destroyed

It will be a hard lesson for if storing good or expensive things that there are sprinklers fitted.

Wow very sorry to see this especially anyone who will have lost everything.

This is the problem with places like this. Outside of standard fire risks, electrical and whatnot, you've no idea what some lunatic or plain old idiot sharing the building with you is storing,

Presumably insurance works like house insurance and you cant just decide your original Picasso and box of cash was stored in it after the fire?

FAQ's here, it seems insurance is optional.

I dont know. I would have thought it would be under STORE IT insurance.

    I really am not sure.

I would have thought alot of people who moved out of the country for work might have stored things there or people who have rented out their houses

insurance is extra in these places though they might give you something small like 100 euro worth

Not nearly enough for what most people store

It would appear that way unless additional insurance was taken out, their website is a bit vague.

The smoke appears to be thinning out now and black anymore.

I'm surprised it would go up like that. You'd think a concrete shed where small rooms are sectioned off behind metal doors would be the last place to go up.

Maybe they didn't put enough effort into fire rating the building??

People have too much stuff in their lives, spare bedroom, garages, attics and presses full of stuff they dont ever need or use and then they rent out storage units for space for more stuff they dont ever need or use.
People need to stop hoarding stuff.

Would be a metal racking structure with wood flooring. As its mostly consumer goods no fire protection would be installed (sprinkler, FM200). And tbh a sprinkler system would only slow down a fire for a few minutes anyway. Gas systems only work in air tight rooms so not a runner for a unit based WH like that one.

Glad everyone alright, shame a few people have no jobs now.

Most people store items for sentimental value, the belongings of a dead loved one they cant bear to throw out. Some would have stuff they need in storage until they can buy their own house.
