Soil depletion

Hi, a friend who comes from a farming background was telling me that the mineral content of the soil in Ireland and the Western world in general has decreased a lot through over-farming and pesticides etc. I've noticed myself in recent years that the food even when it's organic doesn't seem to have the same flavour or energy release from it. Is there any scientific basis for this?.

Owing to serious abuse by the human race, the soil is reckoned to only have 100 years life left!

But judging by the way we're trashing the planet & ourselves, we'll probably be long gone by then, anyway!

It's tragic, I'd love to travel back in time even fifty years and see if there's much of a difference in the food. I think a lot of what passes for food even with the premium labels is just lifeless crud. We'll end up having to eat some sort of gel grown in labs to sustain us it it continues the way it is.
