I've just spent the last six hours in the hell hole that is Galway. I'd not been in many years and have to admit I hate every minute I've spent here. There's nothing to do during the day and the place is full of knitted jumper shops and tin whistle players.

Can't wait to get the train out of here.

Where have you gone that you heard was great but was actually ****e?

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Then again it's not for everyone. I once met one other person that didn't like Galway so you're not alone.

Islamic State. The people there are in no way as friendly as they are on the news.

I'm with you on Galway- I didn't hate it, but didn't live up to the hype at all.

Thought the same about Chicago-perfectly nice city, but didn't get why people go on and on about it.

I did the tour of the Waterford Crystal factory some years back, underwhelming in the extreme.

Ya I guess we just didn't click with the place and forget about Google maps. Nightmare with the lay out.

In all honesty, I have no idea what you were expecting to see at the Waterford Crystal factory ...

The London eye... what a waste of money.

I'm sorry you had that experience OP, but if you are a traditional musician Galway is a paradise, it is also probably got the most bohemian and Body & Soul feel to it too. In beautiful sunny weather it is a musical paradise out in the streets, lots of great buskers and artists in the place.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

The sistine chapel. hours of walking through the vatican city, looking at painting after painting, only to be landed into a room the size of a small town community hall. I was so jaded from the journey there, that I said "f*ck that" after 5 minutes and left.

Edit - forgot to mention the fact that you're following signs for it for what seems like an eternity, before you finally get there. Its like they want you to see every other thing they have to offer, before allowing you to exit via the chapel itself.

The other 15 chapels were nicer imo.

What was so hellish about it? You've spent 6 hours and there's nothing to do?

Why don't you just get a book or a newspaper and go to the pub? Talk to some people?
Stuff your face with seafood. Walk around the cool river/canal system. There's all sorts of little sluice gates and bridges and dams and stuff like that.
It's hardly a hellhole in the Rochdale or Grimsby or Moate sense, is it?

Hyperspace, been there, done that, yawn.

Not really places but sites, I suppose.

I was very unimpressed with Stonehenge. I know I'll incur the wrath of the druid people and archaeology buffs but I just thought it was underwhelming. Probably my fault thinking it would be "breathtaking" when it shouldn't be really, but rather a place where you go to think about the guys who built it and why rather than the structure itself.

I also found the Marino Casino to be a bit anti-climactic as well. It's quirky and quaint but I guess I got it into my head that I would be stepping into some kind of Escher-esque building that contradicted all the laws of space and dimension.

Regarding places...give me Galway over Gibraltar any day of the week. A pox on that place.

What's Nandos? I've heard of a "cheeky Nandos" but nothing of Nandos.

Brussels is dreadful. Lots of better places (Gent is great for example) in Belgium but Brussels is really sh1t.

Cork is kind of meh, in my limited experience. I much prefer Galway.

Further afield, Sao Paolo is grim and Frankfurt is completely forgettable.

I've heard a few people say the Giants Causeway is a bit underwhelming for the hassle to get to it.

Lisbon - awful kip. Nothing to do, very unfriendly locals and the amount of drug dealers was staggering.
