Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And that's the way the world works. My naivety and innocence are long gone. :P

Using every loophole they can to pay as little tax as possible.

Well sure thats one of the main reasons a lot of companies invest in Ireland in the first place. Our low corporate tax rate. If we had it on the same level as other EU countries not 1/10th of the MNCs with HQs and factories and offices in Ireland atm would be located here.

The corporate version of that annoying kid we all knew when we were children. Who dropped the "I'm taking my ball and going home!" when they didn't get their way.
It's their right to do it but it doesn't make it right.

That's capitalism tbh. Expecting companies to have a social conscience is very naive. In the vast, vast majority of cases, the sole goal is profit. In a capitalist culture, companies should be exploiting every loophole possible to maximise profit. Why should a private company pay a higher amount of tax if they can avoid it? Why should they pay reasonable wages when there are places where they can easily get away with not doing so? It's governments' responsibility to close loopholes and enact decent employment legislation. As sickening and all as it is to see what companies like Apple get away with, they're just products of the environment.

ANYWAY, back to a yaaah, I just wrote my first cheque. I feel so grown up!

And to make it even better, it's not even coming out of my own account! #TreasurerLife

Despite the many complaints about "capitalism" and what have you from the bearded Che Guevara t-shirt wearer types, we actually live in one of the most centre left countries in the world in terms of economic policy.

As previously pointed out, the low corporate tax rate has done wonders for the Irish economy.

We need to enforce a strict system of Anarchism. It's the only way

2 pints for six quid. Monaghan has some positives. 12 quids worth might make the accent sexy.

a decade ago maybe. right now due to the fact we're english speaking and are cemented firmly in the EU we're at a massive advantage with regards to american firms compared to even the UK.

first night back in limerick after two weeks working in monaghan. Living out of a b and b and eating at work has left my stomach in bits.

The joy I feel tonight simply because I got to cook a proper dinner is immense.

Staff reviews in our shop today. You put in effort to improving your work and take on a lot of extra responsibility and you genuinely get rewarded. Gone up in pay rate And they hinted at step up in positions. Today was a Good day.

    I have a cool sister.

Yesterday I got a small parcel from her containing 2 Malteaser bunnies, a small bag of Creme eggs and 2 small Cadburys Easter eggs. Enclosed was a note saying that she didn't want me missing out on Cadburys Easter goodness just cos i'm in NL.

    And she's older than me.

None of the computers in college run my code for my project due Tuesday. The only building with computers with the software I need is closed >:( I can just download it tomorrow on my laptop.

So I'm using this as an excuse not to do my project and instead to dye my hair mad colours!!! I hope I don't regret this decision.....

My best friend is emigrating in less than a month (this is an argh, but bear with me.) Walked into my estate and she's standing in front of my house waiting for me, presents me with a large bag then leaves. It's filled with unused make up and jewellery that she's not going to bring with her. I reckon there's about €350 worth of stuff!

I'm going to miss her so much.

The banter is top notch to be fair, it's cool how all the jokes are NUIG/study/exam related.

You set it to your location so all of the things that go up are related to your area. I go to college in NUIG and it's exam time so it's all relevant to what's going on around campus which is a very very cool feature.

    Ohhhh that makes more sense.

I still won't though, my Dutch isn't that good yet.

All the updates in Limerick seem to be days old. Can't really figure it out at all. Probably only any good for those on college campuses.

Yik yak is only really good if you live in the middle of a city or near a college. I live in the backarse of nowhere and there's barely ever any posts on it. I think there's one lad who's always talking to himself because there's loads of farming jokes with just one upvote on them meaning he's probably voting himself.

Yeah, I saw a few screenshots on Reddit from the US and it seemed somewhat entertaining. Maybe it'll catch on over hear.

What strange apps y'all like. Downloaded it there and I'm getting Galway ennis and Limerick. Gonna be interesting lol. Some funny posts on it already

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,891 ✭✭✭iamanengine

You can set your 'base camp' to a certain location. So, for example, say I live in Mayo but I go to college in UCD. I set my base camp location to Dublin and you'll get yik yaks from that location instead, simples :)
