I found these anti SSM/SSA posters on google, these are the type of posters the no campaign should put on poles and billboards to argue the case against the referendum.

It'd be really great if you could tell us which part of this referendum were all voting on next month as any impact whatsoever on a gay couple's right to adopt - I've clearly missed it.

    Cheers

You still don't appear to understand what we're actually voting on.......

I know you haven't replied to any of the posts directed at you thus far and seem happy enough going on and on to yourself. However, I must ask: do you actually know what it is you're voting on, and what this referendum is?

Now you see how non-religious people feel in this country.

Replace 'lizard' with 'religious' in the above. Put yourself in the shoes of the other.

    You've missed the subtle undertone.

    Q. Do you believe in a more modern conspiracy theory?

    A. Not only do I believe it, I'm going to state it to be true of you based on no evidence whatsoever. However, I'm going to affect tolerance and ask you not to oppress me as my argument is based on pretending to believe a false premise, (on which I will offer no evidence) and then claiming or implying victimhood.

It's the neo-con school of argument, beautifully and amusingly condensed. All that's left is being asked to Pray For China.

SO is totally au fait with what the referendum is about, he's just not confident enough to put up an against argument, so he keeps pushing pianos on to the stage to distract attention.

Those posters are about as relevant as this one...

I like this one, personally. I think the No campaign should go with this: https://scontent-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/11162475_741021182677120_685764000150552425_n.jpg?oh=4b2f4649590294aefc769fda9b4e8ff0&oe=55A29DDE

Here's a nice article from Noel Whelan in the IT. http://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/noel-whelan-no-side-posters-may-prove-counterproductive-1.2186624
I like his take here on the posters.
The other reason these No posters may prove counterproductive is because they have provoked Yes supporters out of their complacency. Online donations to fund Yes posters and enquiries to the Yes campaign from those volunteering to canvass have soared in the days since these No posters went up.
To that extent at least they are a welcome development in this campaign.

And I am liking that very much. After all, if the no campaign can put up diversionary, untrue and insulting commentary about people's families, I'm sure the yes campaign can put up diversionary, pointed and satirical replies. Seeing as anyone can put anything on a referendum poster like....

Free speech and all that ;)

    Funny that.

Can't read it as I have exceeded my limit of Irish Times articles. The last fellah I met who was raised by two lesbians was back in college. He was a really nice guy with loads of female friends. But he never got laid. Hope you fare better.

Wait, there's an article by some guy blaming his lack of sexual success on his two lesbian moms? Holy ****.

Since when is having sex when in college the sum total of a person's success in life?

She did not have a father growing up so she is voting no.
Not sure how this would change the circumstance in which she found herself. Her parents split up and her father opted out.

    She's American. She can't vote.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

M&FM will need to revise that content, because they are wrong on several key points. The courts have ruled that Article 41 does not grant a right to procreate; they've instead determined that such a right resides in Article 40 - Personal Rights. Last time I checked personal rights weren't dependant on marital status.

They also ignore other relevant case, such as last year's surrogacy case. Despite the fact that the genetic parents in that case were married, the courts still ruled that the birth mother, i.e. the surrogate, was the legal mother.

I would recommend that you this blog post on the matter by UCC law lecturer, who is an expert in constitutional law and children's rights. Even if you disagree with him he at least cites relevant case law to back up his claims; something M&FM hasn't done.

And look. MAFM are basically lieing

For the first time , i don't think I will even vote.

Result will affect my life in zero ways.

I do believe this is where the yes side will win as they seem to be passionate about it.

I reckon most folk in Ireland don't give a feck either way.

So if you have kids or family, friends. Who are gay. You'll tell them in the future you didn't bother to vote because it didn't effect you.

He'd be ok. Its likely he would meet a divorced woman with kids who married a jerk and would look for those qualities and he would safe around kids.

Honestly , I don't have any friends who are gay. Not that I object to them.

I just don't know any in my group of mates.

Why should I care. And I say that as a proper question.

Because you'd want to appear progressive and fall in line. Just like our parents did back when Arch Bishop McQuaid was calling the shots. I don't know your age but lots of single women hang around gay men. It would be worthwhile to get to know a few.

You should care one way or another. Whether that's voting yes or voting no, you should vote. Abstaining is showing you have no opinion or don't care. This is bad. It's bad because this will have an effect on society.
Vote yes and same sex couples can get married which is good (imo).
Vote no and they can't which is good (in someone else's opinion).

Bottom line is that you should exercise your right to vote as a citizen of the country.
