i would say it depends on the situation if its new england they could easily take him in the second because the locker room there should be able to keep him on the right track more than most.

somewhere like buffalo however i feel should consider taking him off there board

Surprised anyone could rank Chris Bonner in their top 5 with so little tape available. I remember Matt Waldman wrote about him a few months ago and I watched some of the accompanying videos, and I was shocked that someone who's opinion I general think highly of could write good things about someone who looks so bad.

He is one of the slowest, lumbering, creaky QBs I've ever seen more than 5 minutes of. Genuinely looks like he needs to go the sidelines between plays to get oiled up with some WD-40 or something. He moves like his bones are rocks grinding against each other. He's like an Ent out of Lord of the Rings. His throws are weak and more often than not lofted, arcing punts more than anything. And his actual throwing motion just looks like a darts player. Haven't seen a single pass with anything resembling an impressive zip.

People are talking about him on the usual places - Reddit, Twitter, Forums etc. - but I just don't see it. I'm offended by how bad he looks versus how good some people think he looks. It's the usual clamour to proclaim a non FBS QB as "the next Romo/Flacco". There's at least 10 QBs in this draft I'd take before I'd even want to look at his tape again. There's several free agent QBs, including those who are known NFL failures, who I'd rather take. He just looks painfully, painfully bad, which is pretty apt considering he looks and moves like someone who is in a lot of pain. Maybe he watched his own tape before stepping out on the field.

There's always one or two like that who crop up every year. Last year it was Tom Savage and one comment from someone on Twitter summed up how I usually feel about these kind of guys:

"The more I read about him, the more I think Pitt could have used a QB like Tom Savage this season"

    :pac:

My sleeper QB is Brandon Bridge from Southern Alabama who played in the Sun Belt Conference. That's still Division 1!

6'4", 229 lbs and may add some weight in the pros. Has the ability to scramble and escape rushers Big Ben style but his canon of an arm is his main strength.

I'm no film guru but from my watching his footwork looks very untidy and a bit awkward but I believe that can be coached and corrected

Won't be starting in the pros anytime soon but spend a 7th rounder here and you have a 3rd stringer for 2015 and maybe a backup in 2016

Gregg Cosell likes him a lot and there is an opinion I respect

Tall QB with a powerful arm, maybe my Ravens can coach him into a backup.

I'm interested to no why your so high on Carter Morrison.?..strong hitter if I remember right but nothin else jumped out in my mind to warrant the #2 CB spot

Byron Jones's tape is also day 3. Marcus peters tape is a million miles better. Not sure if these rankings are genuinely tape based.

Wouldn't know enough on either player but I know those two are under consideration if they're available when the Cowboys pick if they're still on the board at #27 unless of course Gurley or Girdon are still there..

Haha take it your not a fan so. I've watched three games worth of tape on him.

He has a lot of ugly plays no denying it. More about his upside that I have him where I rank him. He has the size and arm and looks relatively capable in the pocket bar some awful footwork at times. I'm just intrigued with what some NFL coaching could do.

By no means am I high on the guy but I don't rate the likes of Bryce Petty's chances any higher and personally I'd rather take a shot on a guy like Bonner who's that bit more pro ready and who has some fundamentals of a pocket passer. Its a truly awful QB class outside of the top 3 imo and you could insert a number of guys in at that no.5 position and I'd have little confidence in any of them. I see flashes of ability with Bonner.

This was my summary on Carter the other day:

Carter I have a big soft spot for. No outstanding speed which I think must be the main reason for his draft stock but he plays really physical and has the length to hold up against any receiver in the pros imo. Give some safety help behind him and let him use his physicality in man coverage and he should be really good. His ball skills makes me think he could do really well at safety too if he bulks up a bit. Great leap on him and seems to have those instincts and patience you need as a free safety to know where the ball is going. Sure tackler too.

Just an outstanding press corner imo and prob has the best feet in the class. Really big fan of him.

Trae Waynes I like a lot but not as much as the consensus opinion. Not a chance I'm spending a top 10 pick on him. Gets bullied a bit out on the perimeter, lacks strength and has a habit of taking poor angles when tackling. Another who needs to put on some weight imo. Lot to like though and a lot of upside. I prefer the physical style of Carter and Kevin Johnson though tbh and feel they won't have their lack of strength as exposed as Waynes may do.

I understand I'm always opening myself up to criticism posting rankings. They are genuinely what I see from tape on my daily commute in the mornings. I've stated above I'm no expert and just like doing these rankings to see how they hold up on draft day and the next few years to come. Get a kick out of some of my favourite players doing better in the pros than expected. Obviously some of my picks will flop too. Always a good way to generate some discussion though.

In regards to the Jones and Peters discussion I prob should have explained them previously.

Jones is obviously an athletic freak. Lacks the great footwork I like from the likes of Alex Carter though. A lot of upside with him with his size and athletic ability. Has it all just needs to show it a bit more consistently and not get beat by inside routes as often. He also has all the tools for a move to free safety and played there for a couple of years previously. You just can't teach the size, length, athleticism and explosiveness he brings. Big fan of him.

Peters talent wise could break the top 3 pretty easily. Red flag being his attitude and supposed inability to get along with coaches. Lacks the blazing speed but has the physicality I love in a corner. Really torn about this ranking especially because he's so clearly talented on tape. He's a bit inconsistent at times but that wouldn't worry me massively. If it comes together he could very easily be the #1 corner in this class no doubt about it. I just think the four prospects I have ranked ahead of him are safer picks which are less likely to miss. I don't doubt Peters' upside for a second though.

The top five in general are separated by pretty slim margins. Bit of a drop off outside of those five though. The likes of Rollins and Jalen Collins worry me a bit to rank them high. Think they might struggle initially and both come across to me as a bit raw. Darby I see in a similar way. Overrated prospects to me.

I love the draft, can't wait for thursday night! It's one of the rare days in the season when watching all the college ball pays off and you start throwing your cushion at the telly when the Eagles piss away another first rounder on some terrible player that will never pan out!

ahhh the eagles have been far from the worst drafting team to be fair outside of the danny watkins draft that was a nightmare

Every team has their blush flushes of first round draft picks
It happens the best and worst
And guys that don't get drafted could still be stars
    Romo wasn't drafted

We do great in the mid and late rounds but I never have any confidence in our firsts. Plenty of lads that didn't pan out but overall I'll gladly take being an eagles fan and having confidence that, by and large, we're always a contender. And this year's off-season has been exciting to say the least!

    Brandon Kiley
    @BKSportsTalk
SCOOP: Shane Ray cited for possession of marijuana this morning in Cooper County, MO. http://www.mshp.dps.mo.gov/HP71/ArrestDetailsAction?TW01REPORTNUMBER=I243822F

Should bring his draft stock down to a more reasonable level.

I'm all for making weed legal, but you'd think with a career on the line and millions of dollars, those plebs would actually manage to avoid it for at least the fecking WEEK of the draft.

Such a bad time to do it, crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,967 ✭✭✭Morrison J

Early 2nd round at best for Ray now I'd think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,475 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

If he somehow dropped to 40, I'd be delighted if Giants picked him up!

The whole Will Hill scenario might stop them from doing so, however. (still annoyed he's at the Ravens now, tbh)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,725 ✭✭✭kennyb3

I'd love him at 39 for the bears, but it really depends on that foot. He could play the joker role in Fangio's defence and really pin his ears back.

I don't think he'll get that far however (low 1st now) but stranger things have happened for sure.

More draft reading for anyone interested, can't say I agree with it all but worth a read anyway.

jesus i just saw an article that said since 2003 the eagles have drafted 30 defensive players in the first 3 rounds and have a grand total of 0 pro bowlers among them

(although fletcher cox should have made last season and likely will this year baring an injury)

I would have serious questions over White & Ray as being anywhere near as "can't miss" prospects. White has bust wrote all over him IMO.

I agree that Williams and Cooper are guaranteed "can't miss". I think Fowler is very good and likely to be a top player but don't know that I would say he is can't miss.

Pretty much agree with you there.

I'd probably add Shelton into the Fowler very good prospect list. He's one I'd feel 100% comfortable with too. I'd probably even rank him above Fowler on that list but of course he's not as a sexy a pick and won't get as many headlines.

White could turn out to be a great pick but the one year of production would worry me. I think i'd rather pick Strong at 20+ than white in top 5-7.
