Start what? Pointing out the deleteriousness of using food as a comfort blanket against the travails of the world?! Or revealing the peril of using starches and proteins to shield one's vanity from the unforgiving truth?

    Barbequed high-horse served med/well :D:p

A large bottle of Guinness Extra Stout (off the shelf!), two slices of freshly baked brown bread and butter as thick as sliced cheese.

Anything with hot chilli peppers, though it becomes a discomfort food a few hours later.

You will have that on an Irish forum you know.

A Croque Monsieur. Two slices of good sourdough, organic black ham, thick cut slices of Gubbeen, topped with a béchamel sauce with just a hint of nutmeg added.

I'd enjoy this (very) occasionally with a good Dunkelweizen.

That was the most pretentious way to say "ham, cheese, bread and beer" ever.

This will not do. Five pages in and not a single person has said JaffaCakes. :)

I do echo the OP's love for potato waffles. Have them all the time.

Potato waffle sandwich: Fried runny egg topped with grated cheddar cheese in between two potato waffles. Amazing. Crave it even more now that I live in Canada and can't get waffles.

Comfort food? So many to choose from. Mashed potatoes, sausages and baked beans is one. Poutine is another. A good Irish stew. Lasagna. Cream crackers with processed cheese slices. A toasted cheese sandwich with cream of mushroom soup for dipping.

Chocolate covered J Os (think they called that! Irish version of Oreos) -a new discovery. ..fab

Falafel. With lots of tsatsiki and any kind of hot sauce, stuffed into a hot pitta bread with tons of lettuce, cucumber and onion.

I think I might make that for tea today :)

Other than that, pasta. Any shape, with tomato sauce, or with mushroom sauce, or just with garlic and olive oil. Or in a soup. I could eat pasta 3 meals a day, 7 days a week.

Chicken wings. Loads of them. So many of them. I want all the chicken wings, all of them.

I often associate food with social activities and one of my favourites is when a few of the lads call around for a football match on television, game of poker or perhaps a session on the Xbox.

Start from scratch, invest in a few spices etc. and make up perhaps two different curries. Maybe a lamb jalfrezi (I like mine hot) and a chicken thai green curry (or whatever takes your fancy) for those that prefer something milder, pop them both into the middle of the table, few naan breads and other sides etc. and ice cold beer.

A perfect remedy to a stressful week and the food will be great (pop over to the Cooking/Recipes forum for curry ideas)
