I am looking for a suitable online site in Ireland or the UK where I could buy shares and hold them for several years, with small trading charges and maintenance fees.
It should be also noted that I am currently living in Australia, but i don't think i will be staying here longterm and will probably return to Ireland in the next 3-5yrs, this is why I would prefer to have an Irish or UK online account.
I am looking at investing €5-6k initally.
    any info would be great.

Also worth considering your tax position. If you are Irish domiciled and will be non resident for at least 6 years and will sell the shares while at the time being so non resident, it is possible assuming the shares are not Irish property that you will not be liable to Irish cgt. Foreign tax would need to be considered however

I will more than likely be resident in Ireland when I am selling the shares.
