Just heard a cover version of the Jam's "That's Entertainment" on one of Channels.

Little delicate voice trying to make it into a lulaby.

    She pissed me off.

It's terrible the way when people cover songs you can't ever listen to the original again because it's banned.

That cover of of Comfortably Numb should have landed the Scissor Sisters in The Hague.

In some cases, some people make it sound better or more perfect to the original...

I have to say, this guy's fingers made me see double on the solo part...

Meh, let em at it. Most YouTube covers of songs are just an attempt at imitating the original as opposed to trying to put their own spin on it, but then most people are unoriginal so it's not exactly surprising.

I'd prefer someone to try to make the song different and for it to be ****e than some generic guitar player with an almost non specific voice it's that generic. I mean I probably won't listen to either of the covers, but I'd respect the person who tried and failed rather than the one who played it safe

I thought it was pretty brave, and different enough from the original to merit being done.

Far too many covers now are the same, as the OP noted a young delicate voice slowing down a classic, very often just an acoustic - there's almost a formula for covers. They threw the kitchen sink at Comfortably Numb.

I listened to around 5 seconds of that Chop Suey cover and it sounded far far worse than I thought it would. Her incoherent rambling of 'Wekkup, baddaliddadunalilla mekkup" will haunt me for a while...

Totally agree OP ever since 'cornflake girl' did a Nirvana cover, people have a being going crazy for this inane excuse for music.

    Typical format:
    Slow version
Solo Piano (guitar is even more melancholic)
    Breathy voice
    Almost crying

I hope it ends soon and people do proper re-interpretations. Somebody that I used to know- by walk off the earth was a proper cover/re-interpretation.

Spot on. I presume a lot of it comes from that whole young girl on X Factor breathes some AC/DC number into a mic on the rock out episode. Ads are another one where you hear them all the time.

Another brave one like Scissors Sisters, though maybe so much a cover, they just stole whole chunks of Marc Cohen's "Walking in Memphis". But always loved the way SUAD did Raving I'm Raving...

I normally utterly despise cover bands and tribute bands, but Nouvelle Vague do have some really good covers. Their version of No One Knows by QOTSA is nearly better than the original.

Check out the Richard Cheese lounge\swing version. It's brilliant.

I always hated the Amy Winehouse cover version of 'Valerie'.

The Zutons version was the best and always will be

This is considered a bad cover but I think it's better than the original*

It can work amazingly well or absolutely terribly. The one song I can think of that does the latter is Ben Howard's cover of "Call me maybe"

This one cracks me up. A cover of the Dr. Dre/Snoop classic:
