    Hi Folks,

All discussion on Karen's disappearance to be kept to this thread from now on. We've locked the last two due to them getting out of hand with people speculating on unsubstantiated information.

In this thread, we will not be allowing any discussion of speculation or unsubstantiated rumours. Facts only.

It should go with out saying, but no jokes, and nothing nasty will be tolerated, neither will comments on the appearance of anyone involved with the case in any way shape or form.

Please bare in mind that Karen's friends and family may read whatever you post here - with that in mind, we will be very strict in moderating this thread.

    Cheers

The story of Karen's disappearance has shook me. Reading about her, she seemed so much like the typical happy go lucky student with her whole future ahead of her, just like so many students I see laughing and joking on the bus going to college each morning.

As a parent, I can only imagine how horrible this is for her family. My thoughts are with them.

Having been from Glasgow originally I have a lot of Scottish Facebook friends so I shared the appeal for Karen, I hope she is found alive and well, gods knows what her family are going through, power on.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

The fact that the search has gone to a random farm on the outskirts of Glasgow is not a good sign despite The Express being a rag and probably jumping the gun.

Laws are not harsh enough on the perpetrator for these type of crimes Hence why we see them so often in western society .

Something is going on. I was reading about the discovery (I'm nearly sure it was the Indo), and it said something about the area being near where the suspect's mother lives.

    All info gone now.

Thoughts are also with the police force who no doubt are doing an excellent job.

I've just deleted a load of posts speculating what happened to Karen. I would ask people not to post any information unless it has been widely reported by reputable news sources.

Edit: to be clear, at this time, there are no substantiated reports that a body has been found.

The police have thrown every resource at this. Forensic, dogs, sub aqua, helicopter, ground searches with extra manpower and door to door enquiries. I think all we know so far, concretely, is:
    • She left the club, apparently not under duress
    • She went with someone (precisely what happened there is still somewhat speculative)
    • Her handbag was found
    • The whereabouts of her phone is unknown, or there's been no activity on it
    • Searches have been carried out, widened and possibly now narrowed to a specific area or areas
    • A man has been detained this evening

Whatever about members of the public, but the casual manner in which I saw some so called journalists tweeting earlier today was disgusting.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Buckley family. I cannot even begin to imagine their torment.

I agree. These types of thread serve no purpose

Must be horrible for the family with all this public speculation on top of all else they have had to go through. If a body is found, I'd worry that it'd be known on twitter before the family themselves.

EDIT : I too believe it may be better to close the thread. Even if some of the media have no ethics, we should. It might be a public case but they appear to be past the point of Public Appeals. It's a traumatic event for the family and should be private. If the media can't help then they should wait until the police have more info to share.

Yes, please close the thread. It serves no purpose and there is no real discussion possible until there is real news and charges etc.

Exactly. It's stupid to allow discussion when nothing is known for certain and at the same time delete or disallow 'speculation'.

If you don't want people speculating or linking to unconfirmed news reports then why have a thread at all?

There's nothing to bloody say and an open thread is an invitation for people to repeat rumors and speculate =/

Sky news were saying that the farmer rented out buildings and was being asked if there were any bonfires recently.

Might be something to do with fire service being called in.

Can I create a thread for discussion on the over moderation or will that be pulled also?

I had no comments deleted by the way but some of the comments deleted is ludicrous

You can create a discussion in feedback, an appropriate place for your grievance, not this thread.
