She's simply not likeable enough. Likeability seems to be a major factor in American politics. I don't think Americans are ready for a woman president. They took a chance on a black president and they feel very let down by him, so I'm guessing that they're going to bet on a 'safe' candidate next time around.

She isn't likeable enough at all, the only reason people know her is cos of bill

Granted she may have peaked and dipped in the public perception popularity polls (try saying that fast four times :D), but to say the only reason people know her is because of Bill?

She was already making a name for herself in family law and politics while Bill was slill fumbling (literally) over the interns in his Arkansas office.

I reckon she has both the experience, and the knowledge to be the next American President. She was robbed of the Democratic nomination by Obama IMO.

I thought that historically the Democrats had a bit more to blush about than Republicans when it came to the issue of slaves.

Yes but things have changed a little since the days of Abraham Lincoln.

Yeah but the limp-wristed liberal media are pawns of the Democratic Party so they control history!

Oh it has, I appreciate that the Democrats are now also against the slave trade too.

But still, of the two parties, it's a bit harsh to slur the Republicans with that particular reference.

Ah, I see what you meant now. Apologies.

Still, remove the "slave" bit and the rest of Bambi's comment still stands. The modern day Republican party has far too many dangerous fruitcakes in it and their potential candidate list this year isn't exactly inspiring. Chris Christie seems moderately sane but the likes of Santorum, Perry, Cruz, Trump.....horrifying prospects.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carly_Fiorina

I've never heard of her either.

"She has frequently been ranked as one of the worst tech CEOs of all time." - well that's promising!

When I was in college in Galway we would go to HP for visits.

Not one employee had a good word to say about Carly Fiorina. They knew her from a site visit and whatever corporate bull**** communications she sent around

Wikipedia said she resigned. Now there's corporate speak. Should say forced out

Hilary is the safe candidate, she's a neo-con. Obama isn't perfect but at least he is trying to solve conflicts rather than start new ones. I'm hoping against hope the republicans run Rand Paul.

Carly Fiorina, while I like the idea of a candidate with business background, unfortunately most of her expertise seems to be in area of running businesses into the ground rather than running them.

You need to stop taking your analysis from the Irish Times and Guardian, neither of the last two candidates the republicans ran fit that category. The republicans toy with the idea of running religious right candidates, but in practice they haven't run with one since (or before) Bush II, who was exception.

I don't know who the other contenders are, I just think the next president will be a white middle-aged man. They just don't like Hillary, regardless of her abilities or experience, I just don't think they'll vote for her.

Hope she gets the nomination for the Democrats because the Republicans are then guaranteed the win.

McCain was fairly tame but Romney was very much a conservative headbanger, he just looked moderate compared to the even more barmy opposition he was up against. Anyone would look relatively sane going up against the likes of Rick Santorum or Michele Bachmann.

Who would your preferred choice be for the Republicans?

Well, yes and no. He positioned himself as more right wing than his record suggests. As Massachusetts governor he introduced health care reform making it easier for those on low incomes to get insurance (the dread 'socialised' healthcare). I know the Mormon relgion is viewed as kooky in Europe but actually the 'true' religious right in the US are suspicious of it.

Does not matter who becomes President, much of the important stuff is run by insiders in the military that have been there for decades.

So that fcuking space hopper from alpha centuri romney wasn't a religious right candidate then?

romney, bachmann, palin, cruz, rand paul.... all appealing to the tea party head banger vote.

You need to stop codding yourself that republicanism didnt take a sharp turn into fundamentalist territory due to the trauma of having clinton in the white house.

The military is generally reluctant to go to war. The chicken hawk neo conservatives, mostly civilians, not so much.

That's probably true. Also McCain is batsh1t crazy so saying Romney was to his right makes no sense.

She's guaranteed to win pretty much. The declared republicans are nut jobs.
