I object! You're leading the witness.

That's how it usually goes on t.v. anyway. . .

It's a chain letter - you have to re register and send it to some randomer. Or you'll have 7 years bad luck / lose a fortune / die horribly. They're a pain in the hoop.

I missed a registered letter recently. Hardly slept that night wondering what the bad news was.
It was about my car insurance. Reminding me to send them a form back.
So it could be nothing too important either!
I have recently rewnewed my insurance

the sender posts the letter because they want to be sure the addressee gets it.
Postman delivers it, the docket you got is an attempted delivery which means it is in the local delivery office for you to collect. I think it's either 5 or 10 days before the letter is returned to sender if it's not collected.
Even if you go upto the delivery office try have a glance at the item before you sign for it, to see if it's big, small or any clues on it.
If you opt not to sign it gets sent back to the sender with a notice saying it was refused

Good advice. Its usually fairly obvious what it is. Anything without obvious cash inclosed is a straight no no. The postman does not care either. He has no probs returning it. If it has a stamp *city council..etc..it is unlikely it is a cheque..

As mentioned above it's definitely not jury service. They come in a plain brown envelope from your local council.

Probably from a solicitor saying you've inherited a wad of cash.

Its from a dead Nigerian Prince's heir. He just needs some assistance moving money around. No biggie. He'll give you a small cash amount for your help.

It's probably one of the registered letters that I send randomly to people I don't know, just to freak them out. It'll just contain a list of the food that I ate the previous day and what I estimate to be the cost of said food.

unless you are expecting something I'd leave it in the depot uncollected.

its' probably a summons or a bill. once you sign for it you can't deny it.

as long as you don't need to provide ID to sign for it then yeah you can. Make sure you sign completely differently to how you normally do (or get somebody else to get it & sign for you).

I say you cant deny it because quite a few posties sign for stuff to help out their locals...mine did it..and theres been a few threads on boards about that happening too.

Bad decision. The OP is genuinely concerned and you move it to after hours where people are going to wind him up and make him more anxious?

You do have to bring ID and the notice to collect items .

As for Posties signing for items they are idiots since they can get into a fair bit of trouble if that is found out .

It's a Civil Bill. If you haven't got it by now expect the bailiffs to be round some time soon.

If it's jury duty you may be missing out, I'd like to do it. Maybe I'm weird.

If it's a summons for a failure to pay your water charges  and you ignore enough of them a judge will just issue a bench warrant and you'll be arrested. Best open it.

You would be and ideal candidate for jury service alright. You know nothing about the law and you have ignored the evidence already presented in this thread. Jury service letters are not sent by registered post.

Actually a juror should have acute attention to detail. I never actually said they did.

I was also being a tad light-hearted and a little less than serious, but maybe AH wasn't an appropriate place to behave in such a monstrous way.

I caught the touch of humour in your post which is why I responded in a similar way. I should have put one of those annoying emoticon things at the end.

Ah, I see, excuse my abruptness. I interpreted your tone in a manner which suggested you'd recently fallen bare-arse-first onto some sort of cooking implement.

    Have a great evening.

    resists urge to add emoticon
