Redeem code for google play

Hi my mum in law has a huawei phone. She had whatsapp but it needs a software update and has stopped working for her. She has tried to go into Google Play to update it but it keeps asking her to Redeem a code but she has no idea what this means. Does anyone know what to to please?

Not exactly sure, but WhatsApp is not always free, so when it goes to update it is asking for payment information and if a credit card hasn't been set up it's asking for a voucher code instead?
