Gran Turino: An elderly white woman is terrorised and stalked by her Asian neighbours who try to steal her vintage car, get her drunk, call her stupid, and take advantage of her at every opportunity.

Bridge over the River Kwai:It is 1942 and a stiff-lipped, middle-aged British woman & her friends are trapped in Burma. They sit all day in a tea room by the river Kwai, painting watercolours of some men who are working on the construction of a bridge.

Lolita, wasn't the worst film I've ever seen.

As for a movie that could only be made worse if the genders were changed?

Every chick-flick ever made. Imagine Sex and the City with men? Beaches? Thelma and Louise?

Imagine Platoon with women? That'd be one hell of an awkward movie to watch.

    Three men and a baby.

    Lolita's a fantastic film.

Really? The femme fatale is a fairly well defined trope and the abject consumerism of the lead is arguably a more feminine trait anyway...

I could see a female version of Patrick Bateman working quite well on film tbh.

They only used the name really, a proper version of the first film with a female lead could still be good, but probably not set in the eighties.

Disagree with nearly all the posts, most movies could be just as good with either gender if done right.

Calamity Joe…a tom-boyish…eh….man falls in love with his best friend, but manages to disguise his handsomeness until he takes off his cloak at a local dance to reveal he is in fact, gorgeous. Hilarious!

Pretty Man. A young gigolo is hired for an extended period of time by a wealthy business woman. In her absence he shops on Rodeo drive, sings Prince in the bath and takes deportment lessons from a hotel concierge.

Would, IMO, be ridiculously funny with a female lead :D

Harry Potter - can you imagine Dobby but with an even higher pitched voice?
Or if the main same-age antagonist (Malfoy) was a girl and Harry and her ended up falling for eachother. Many stories have this as a "plot twist" even though the entire audience sees it coming from a mile away and it utterly fails to add anything to the story in almost every case.

Don't know if anyone remembers Kenan & Kel, but a similar show with two teenage girls with the same general clumsiness could be absolute gold, and I'm kinda surprised it was never done. The Amanda Show came close but it wasn't a proper sitcom, more of a sketch show.

Whatever about The Graduate or Lolita....Big would have gotten a whole different reaction

    American pie.

A group of young girls set out to lose their virginity. One of them sleeps with their friend's father, one of them fcuks herself with a pastry and ends up with a crazy guy who slaps her during sex, the others... well who cares, they have sex at some point.

Actually, I'd pay to see that!

13 going on 30 and Freaky Friday weren't particularly controversial.

Disagree with nearly all the posts, most movies could be just as good with either gender if done right. If Rocky was done with girls could still be just as good if you had seen that as the original.

The action genre is probably the one of the only would I'd say might lose out and that's just down to the realism, for example imagine Die Hard, not the most realistic movie anyway, if all the male characters become female you'd probably find the plot a bit too outrageous. Though saying that I still think it could be done, just would take a lot more effort.

Crime movies are another, again though it's only down to realism, there wasn't women running the Mafia so having them lead the Godfather or Goodfellas would be too unbelievable.

    Are you on crack, bhra?

I'm holding my breath over here waiting for all the self-described Boards "Egalitarians" to say something at the litany of nasty stereotypes about women on display in this thread.

Because they are absolutely as concerned about women getting shat upon as they are about men.

    :pac:

It's not sexist because women can't drive or be funny because of evolutionary biology or something.

    Fixed.

I'd echo Alien. Having the woman be the survivor was pretty unusual for the time.

You don't think they actually wrote a plot for Barb Wire do you ? They just re-used one.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Paula Duke and her attorney, Dr. Gonzo, load up on a heinous mix of toxic chemicals and drive a fire apple red convertible to Las Vegas in search of the American Dream. The get lost and find themselves in the middle of Death Valley, where their car breaks down and they eventually die of heat stroke. Turkey Vultures pick their corpses clean leaving behind only skeletal remains and scattered beaded jewelry. A symbolic epitaph for the failed dream of the Sixties.
