Dundalk isn't too bad actually. There's some decent enough shops there.
Drogheda on the other hand is a whole different story. Just don't like the look of the place. Looks very shabby and run down.

The only good thing about Kells is that you can throw stones at the Cavan bus as it passes through.

Carlow is a great spot.. If your a smack dealer.

A much higher proportion of scummers compared to most towns I've been to in my experience.

Jaysus - thread crops up every 6 weeks.

The correct answers are Roscrea and Longford btw.

Frankly, a bit of sunshine has a marvelous effect on any town. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to see a depressing town today :)

    You've obviously never seen Castledermot.

Most Louth accents are an affront to good taste, with many of them bordering on the outright offensive. It sounds like someone is interfering with them from behind as they talk.

Mullingar is another wretched hellhole that I hope I never to have to visit again.

    Irish towns ain't that bad.

You'd think they were Siberian mining towns or Bangladeshi slums going by the well travelled folk around here.

    Sometimes they're worse

Ennis is quite nice, I think.

It's also a good spot for anyone who's into trad music.

Off the top of my head, for a sheer vibe of menace around the places, especially after dark, I'd include:
    Longford town
    Granard, Co. Longford
    Tullamore, Co. Offaly
    Ballinasloe, Co. Galway
    Tuam, Co. Galway

Two places where I have visited on occasion and was not fond of:
    Ballina, Co. Mayo
    Nenagh, Co. Tipperary

I see Mountmellick has not been mentioned yet.

    A horrible ghost town.

The worst cities, towns and villages in Ireland. Know any? I'll start. Kingscourt, Co. Cavan. What a pathetic excuse for a town. It only has one street going up and down. Should be bombed. Simple as.

Those descriptions are apt for many towns

Larne and Strabane are completely charmless places up north.

    Tuam!

Yeah, but, at least Tuam and Mullingar do us all a favour and house most of the travellers there. Ballinasloe does a great job too.

I used to have to get the bus from Dublin to Galway when I was in university. I once had a minor existential crisis passing through Kinnegad. Let's not forget Moate either. A wretched place.

Actually, Moate wasn't a bad venue for underage drinking . The lot over the Offally boarder lot a not called Biffo's for a reason. Still home of Foster n Allen and that other "cowboy", perhaps nuking would be polite

Throw in Tullamore, Mullingar , Ballinasloe, Castlerea, Clara, Longford County, City of Derry now thats bleak

Ballaghaderreen. Mayo and Roscommon argue over it but they've better off building a wall around it.

Yes, but unfortunately the gashly sight of some of it's inhabitants topless is one for sore eyes, not to mention some , ahem, ladies, wearing something akin to a nappy, for a miny skirt, alas with tree trunks for legs.
