86 with Austin (c) benteke, Green, Clark and Philips to play. Desperate to break the ton for the first time in 3 years!

In with a good chance this week nice one! Seems you're covered on practically every outcome nice position to be in!!

I can't make sense of this game anymore.

Aguero has had more chances in the last 4 games than he normally needs to score about 10, yet he continues to blank due to hitting the woodwork and insane keeping.

Plus, the fixtures have been pretty awesome.

People with no City coverage have been laughing their asses off and gaining north of 50/60 points on rivals.

Anyway, complete autopilot for the last few weeks now. The will has, i think, officially been lost.

I'm the same. Think this will be my last season of taking the game "serious". From next year, I'll be reverting to logging in on a Friday and doing my transfer plus running the Champions Cup here.

Last year I lost my work league to a lad who hadn't finished above 240k previously. This year I'm fourth to a group of individuals who have no decent history in the game.

What they are doing is using every FF resource going. The game is too easy now. Maybe I'm just being bitter but sites like FFix that even do transfers for people have taken a huge amount of skill out of it IMO.

Plus knowledge and over thinking is killing me. I went Costa over Giroud because he had a double coming up. Earlier in the season I got rid of and didn't bring Kane back in because he had a blank.

Not to mention at Xmas when the casuals stuck with Sanchez captain and were rewarded whereas I listened to the Wenger quotes re tiredness and went with Bony.

Disaster of a gw. Sanchez and berlin both do the business after I transferred them out, Kun my captain with another blank. Since the last dgw my lead at the top of my money league has been cut from 50 odd to 2 points, im hanging on by a thread, and its all largely down to getting my captain picks wrong.

Now to decide who to ship costa out for.

I said the same thing earlier in the season tbh. I've always refused to pay the sub price to FFS and barely even read the main site anymore but every person I chat to in work has it.

It's a great resource but with all the sites now and Twitter feeds there's just too much info available easily.

    51 all in. ****e. Austin's the difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭greedygoblin

61 points. Austin to go. If only I had him captained. What was I thinking captaining Kane! :(

I'll be happy with just 1 more goal from Austin this GW. That would see me finish the week the same distance behind my main rival as I started it.

all the info in the world will never beat gut instinct and that's what'll always separate the men from the boys!

Same boat as you. almost the same amount of points.

but having said that, I'm hoping Austin goes absolutely nuts!

Want to make the guys who took 50/1 wish they took 500/1

When you see lads that haven't finished above 240k in seven or eight seasons finishing at 1500, you begin to question that!

Second last paragraph nailed it .
    I'm sick of it.
Careful planning to get aguero and silva in for 4 plum fixtures ...... Etc etc etc
    Peed off
Only a benteke hat trick will keep me interested . Seriously !
I may go on a hit a spree otherwise

I do see your point of view tbf. I only use boards.ie and I'm having my best season ever by a huge margin. Though I've used boards for a number of years and it never made any difference before now.

I'm still at 30k with seven GWs left. Far from a terrible season. I still think I can crack top 15k which I'd be happy with.

If you feel it's bitterness, highlight what you disagree with and why, rather than just saying "absolute bollocks".

You haven't given a lot of background to your statement tbh.

I think you're right to some extent but I really don't think it's all about every casual joe using the likes of FFFix. None of the 'casual' players I know in my leagues would use, or have heard of FFFix or FFS. FFFix has just over 6,000 followers on twitter. FFS have 38,000. There are about 1.5m active teams at the moment. I'd say the people registered and using these sites extensively are by and large more than just casual players.

FFFix recommended transfers are basically the obvious move and amount to not much more than suggesting the player who has scored most over the last few weeks as a replacement for whoever you propose to take out.

Where I think you are right is that some of us overthink. Busts referred to it too, in terms of it possibly being more effective to focus on maximising your score for the next Gameweek, rather than planning 2, 3, 4 weeks ahead thinking about DGWs, blanks, fixtures etc. I think however that over time the knowledge and preparation/research will win out, what has happened lately is largely down to luck. The guys who are beating you are once off lucky seasons and will never see the top 10k again, while you are in it every season usually.

The obvious calls have often been the right ones this season, the 'clever' moves often haven't come off. It's a matter of getting the balance right between not ignoring what is in plain sight because of some piece of 'extra' information on fixtures, DGWs, press conference quotes etc, but also being able to use that information to gain an edge the when the time is right.

I know you are not a great fan of the notion of luck having that big a big role, and over say ten seasons I agree, but in a sport where small bits of luck are very often the things that decide games seasons, championships (dunno if you've read Numbers Game) it's inevitable that unpredictable events will happen and some people will benefit, and some lucky sod will end up ahead of you once in a while without really knowing how he did it. Sure luck will even out over a season, but out of the thousands of players there's a high probability of few people just being flukey.

By the way, I'm not saying that those of you who are doing well as just lucky, there are good reasons for making moves like captaining Austin this week and plenty of people got them right, but there were also valid reasons for going with Costa over Austin or selling Sanchez. The above doesn't really refer to apply to people taking it serious and working out their moves painstakingly.

I'm talking about Lemlins comments about people who normally come outside the top 250k running away with pay leagues, and saying its more about luck than the prevalence of FPL advice sites.

Edit, with ref to comments since I started writing this 20 feckin minutes ago,for the records I've got a lot wrong and made silly mistakes like the Kane/Pelle thing, missing the Silva boat etc which can be put down to overthinking it, but I'm still inside 8k overall and hoping to get back up a bit. I'm far from writing the game off is all I'm saying, just having a bad run with I think 8 red arrows in 10 weeks.

You do come across a bit bitter saying there are all these sites etc, that your work colleagues are on.

Lets say the previous season where they weren't on them, do you think it's a level playing field you having access to boards and discussing moves with folk on here?

Maybe they just got lucky this year, but there is no need to throw the toys out of the pram.

That Silva BP brings me up to 85 (-4) with Green, and Austin (c) to play.

Still not certain of getting a 100 pts in a single GW, or breaking into the top 100k both for the first time this season.

any turkey can have a good season for any reason. they're probably following the same stupid picking mechanisms they always did, but it's paying off this season. It is for me. I'm still doing stupid things, but they're working mostly :)

51 (-4) with Phillips to go.

Sitting nice and pretty at 60k. I blame myself....and everything and everyone else too :pac:

Edit: Make that 56k now :D

Ye Ive noticed the last 2-3 seasons my rankings have dropped in and around DGWs and I think id put it down to me overthinking things and holding off on moves as Im waiting for a gw further down the line. This particular GW Im pretty certain if I didnt have austin and had someone like giroud or costa I wouldnt have bothered getting austin in as Id be thinking more long term. As a few of yous may have realised I have a bit of a thing for DGWs i.e. when games will get cancelled and refixed however in FF terms Im beginning to think its of no benefit and maybe even a hindrance to plan so far ahead.

No Silva in your team I guess.

Just watching the City game and Crystal Palace has improved so much...

After 11 red arrows in 12 games weeks, I'm finally looking like I'm going to have 2 consecutive green arrows! :)

up to 12.3k from 14.8k with Austin to play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,461 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

It's so hard to not want Aguero to do well, but as an owner and non-captainer of him, I think that was the best thing.

On 58 which is a red arrow for the week, down about 200 places. But I'm hopefully that will turn into a green after tomorrow with Austin (c) and my big differential: Okore. Also have Myhill to come in with a point.

It's been a strange week. Really don't know what my next move should be. Have no Arsenal players. They look very good, but with a blank and Chelsea in their next 3, the logical thing is to hold off getting in some of their players. Will happily move out Austin and Eriksen () but really don't know for who. Liverpool have good fixtures, but seem off form.
