As they admitted to working under restrictions on their Twitter feed did anybody think to ask what the actual restrictions are?
I have asked them but don't expect a response at all - it would probably be commercially sensitive information.

Yep I know of the 1 game restriction on European broadcasters at 3pm but they can pick any game as far as im aware. I was more referring to other games outside 3pm for which all are broadcast in Europe and across the world .

Sorry for misunderstanding - although you did mention the 380...
    irishfeen wrote: »
Of course the fact that all 380 games are not available for broadcast in Ireland is absolutely ridiculous - we are the most restricted country outside the UK in terms of PL games.

And yes, they can pick any game :)

    I've asked them directly myself.

I can't see that it would be commercially sensitive; Sky and BT both make restricted match choices and we are all aware what those restrictions are.

My guess is that if they went public they know there'd be mass defections.

I've been meaning to move this thread to Broadcasting for ages, there's nothing satellite specific about it

Setanta Sports Ireland are showing Everton V Southampton this Saturday.

Man Utd and Aston Villa are on at the same time which means fans wont be happy especially when Utd have a realistic chance of finishing in the Top 4.

I'm not happy, as a subscriber. I do believe now though that this must be the Premier League's doing.

They had nominated that game a few weeks back but, with today's release of May's UKTV fixtures, this Saturday represented this season's last opportunity for Setanta to show Manchester United at 3pm on a Saturday (they might still get the chance on Final Day although last season's fiasco suggests they might not take it).

The only question is/was in what way are Setanta restricted - it is very definitely the PL's doing :)

I know it's been keeping me awake at night wondering why you got the Setanta Pack so thanks for the confirmation :)

But maybe you could actually say what either of those points have to do with (anything at all in) this thread? ;)

Yeah mate, it must be causing problems for Setanta now from both subs & from advertisers.

The big draw here are United, Liverpool then maybe teams like Chelsea & Arsenal.

Commercial subscriptions too. Imagine the scene on a Saturday when a gang turn up their local hoping to see Manchester United (or Liverpool or Chelsea) only to be told the game to be shown is Burnley v Sunderland :D

Setanta do have two upcoming Liverpool 3pms (both scheduled for showing) so that will offset end of season critcism a little.

Superb point, serious money will now be going elsewhere in regards to pubs & clubs.

Glad now I sorted Plex for my Samsung, TSN Canada is handy for the Premier League.

That's technically not quite the case.

Supporters of other teams (Liverpool excepted) have always known their teams would barely get a look in. They subscribed to Setanta well aware of this.

However Manchester United's 3pms have been guaranteed on Setanta prior to this season...

I'd be happy once its one of Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea or City every Saturday, but it seems this is now not possible for Setanta.

    Absolutely fair point.

The 3pm pack is the worst in terms of quality of games but is decent in terms of the amount of times a "big" team can be shown (most weeks).

Setanta joining with BT Sports has crippled them hugely.

Before this season Manchester United's 3pms were guaranteed, followed by Liverpool's. This in itself probably guaranteed subscriptions from a great deal of the country's football followers.

I think most people would be happy with one of the big five on every weekend but that's not happening.

Even the 3pm games on BEin 11 are mostly rubbish now. Full price Setanta sports isn't worth it with this carry on. The selection will be limited over the next few weeks with Sky taking all the big games.

Bein Sports 1 have been showing the first choice 3pm games (particularly since English audio was made available across all their channels).

Besides Bein show EVERY 3pm match so your point is a strange one to make ;)

Regards Setanta I can't imagine there's many paying the full price anyway - if anyone is they're nuts considering the company has always bent over backwards to offer sweeteners as retainers or introductory offers ;)

UK TV choices have been made to the final week of the season and, you're right, there's virtually no top teams left to choose. Of course that was always obviously going to happen which makes their match choices throughout the season even stranger.

Setanta might pick up some decent relegation battle games (featuring the teams they've been mainly showing all season of course) :D

Any Polish stations show all the premier league matches? could get the girlfriend to order a card.

The online player doesn't offer the audio button anymore. As far as I can remember

I wonder will Setanta even bid next time for 3 PM games. Production costs etc can't be worth it for the games they are showing this season. Any viewing figures floating around for them?

The Canal+ suite of channels are your Polish alternative (with the odd game shown on NC+ Sport).

They - like all European channels - are restricted to just one Saturday 3pm. Be aware also that they have no English audio option.

In addition they don't always show every UK TV weekend match and usually only show one game per night in midweek rounds.

Having said that they are a very cheap option

By far the best European option is Canal+ Spain but it's not cheap.

Bt Sports remaining Premier League games dont involve the top 5.

Does this mean Setanta will show better matches?

Btw The Hull V Liverpool match on Setanta could be moved because if Liverpool get to the Semi-Final of the Fa Cup they will be playing Villa on the 19th.

Because of the UKTV picks the only decent competitive games left are relegation battles; it would be ironic if Setanta couldn't pick any of these due to whatever quota system that's in place (based on the fact that they concentrated on a lot of these teams during the rest of the season).

Hopefully Setanta get to show Hull v Liverpool ;)

There is one more Liverpool Saturday 3pm that Setanta can opt to show before season's end so no matter what way the supposed quotas work that shouldn't be a problem if they have to drop the Hull game.

Just to add to what 'waves said there that may be of help if you are a Man United fan... C+ Holland - Fox Sports 2 HD have shown every Man United game live this season but like D+ Spain is pricey as hell.

True enough, Fox Netherlands are great for Manchester United focused coverage even aside from the matches (for obvious reasons).

Another great option for Manchester United fans is TV2 Sport Premium (Norway) who have missed just one game all season, opting for Liverpool one week when both were playing at 3pm. They also show FA Cup and League Cup games so that might make them a better option than Canal+ Spain to be fair.

Like Canal+ Spain TV2 Sport Premium have decent coverage of the midweek games too and have been known to show up to 4 on a given night. Again, though, they are pricey!

But two things that make Canal+ Spain a great option are
i - the stadium sound alternative to the commentary (making it a breeze to sync radio or English language TV commentaries to) and
ii - their simulcasted coverage of the midweek games.

To get every match though you need to look beyond Europe and there are some decent options using VPNs and online services; the best of these are NBC in the USA and PLP in New Zealand.
Arabic Bein Sports coverage is a little better because it shows FA Cup and League Cup too but the English language coverage is missing online and, because they have been frequently targeted by the Premier League thanks to being so heavily pirated, the online option is by no means guaranteed.

Meanwhile there is an NBC XBMC app (freely talked about on this board in another thread despite being an illegal hack) that gives every game for free...

One thing's for sure, more and more people are looking beyond local TV for their football coverage so Setanta have scored a major own goal (like most own goals it hasn't been deliberate on their part).

I do wonder why Setanta - and other European broadcasters to be fair - meekly accept Premier League interference preventing them from showing matches they have paid to be able to broadcast.

    Official streams are very reliable.

It's the VPN that can cause issues.

For PLP VPN is only required to login so you can use your own connection to watch matches (in superb HD quality I might add). PLP also allow you to watch a number of games at once.

PM me for further info if you wish to go this route.

Yeah guys I have both, and they are both outstanding streams, finally found a smartdns to work well with both - PLP has full HD and is the finest pq for streaming I've ever seen.
