Certification of passport copy by solicitor

(Not certain this is the right place....)

I have been asked by a company to provide "a copy of passport that has been certified as a true copy of the original by a solicitor".

I'm not sure if this is peculiar request or not, but any suggestions as to how I'd get it done? I don't know any solicitors, and don't want to pay for an appointment as such, but would it be normal for people to pop into them un-announced asking for such a service?

I'm in north Dublin if that matters at all.

Are you applying for a position within the company? In my experience it's odd they want the copy certified .

Very common for people to just pop and ask for this to be done. Will probably cost in the region of €10. Just ring a few busy practices locally and ask if there would be convenient time for you to come in and they will just ring to see who is available.

I had to do this last year. I would advise ringing a few different solicitors as the first two I called were going to charge but the third said they do it for free. (I'd give you the name but I ended up having to get it done in Monaghan).

You could email a few of them to get a quote for it. I've had it done before by a friend and it was a simple matter of dropping in to her office and she stamped and signed the docs. It only took about ten minutes.

Does it have to be done by a solicitor?

I had to get some documents certified recently (P21's, mortgage interest certs) and my local Garda station did it for free.

Quick update... local solicitor said i could do it tomorrow morning, fee of €10. That wills sort me out.

Normally a Garda station will do this without charge.
Just bring the origional & photocopy with you.
