Has Kelly ever scored direct from a free? I wouldn't mind but Colin Ryan has a bullet of a shot from a dead ball, he has shown this in club matches over and over again.

He scored one against dublin a few years back in the qualifiers anyway.

Is the new one on one rule coming in for the championship?, it may suit him better as accuracy might become a more important factor than raw power (Or at least I presume I haven't witnesed any penalties struck under the new rule yet).

Think he scored one against Limerick in the following round as well.

Disappointing result today. We're destined for 1B now, with Kilkenny getting their big guns back for the playoff. They were full value for their win today in fairness, they were in control for most of the game.

I guess most Clare supporters looking on, knew it was looking ominous once the physicality of game rose in the second half. Just like against Galway and Tipperary or Wexford last year or practically any other team, this Clare team will be beaten in a physical contest. There just isn't any balance to our squad at the moment and every team knows exactly how to beat us. This imbalance also extends to the back line too, where there's very few backs with competent defensive skills.

There were a few positives. Kelly was excellent in fairness. Honan and Reidy did quite well when introduced, as did Seadna and Jack Browne (opening minutes aside). I'd like to see Reidy start the next day although it was a little scary seeing the size difference between himself and Jackie! Arguably the biggest positive was that we had a good puckout strategy for once. Hopefully the coin toss goes in our favour.

So impressed with Tony Kelly today, I've always been a fan but he was unplayable today. Colm Galvin excellent also.

Clare have so much talent at their disposal and will be a match for anyone once the off field issues have been resolved.

Bit off topic given the day that was had in Nolan park, but a question for ye:

What clubs in the county regularly put out a Junior B hurling team? Asking as I'm playing with the idea of starting training next year and while I've plenty work done with the big ball, I've only middling experience with the small one so Junior B might suit me best for a small while :D up the north Clare side would suit the better.

    Thanks lads.

I had fully intended doing the same thing myself this year. Corofin were trying to make a team but couldn't get the numbers for it. Tubber have a Junior team as far as I know but not sure whether they are A or B. Bit too far to travel for me though.

Is it possible for clubs to amalgamate just for Junior B, not quite being able to put out 15 players seems to be an issue for many clubs.

Shame if not because its good to keep people who may not be quite good enough for senior (I was very much in this category in my day :)) involved in the game.

Looks like Colm Galvin is heading for the USA.

He will be a massive loss to Clare!

While I would agree that division 1B is looming for the Cats, I wouldn't completely rule them out.
They are the reigning All-Ireland champions after all, plus the Ballyhale lads will be in a high....

I guess that will depend on how you define north Clare . Clonbonny (Mullagh / Milltown) are the only junior b team that regularly field a team, Tubber's lowest team is junior A

Wouldn't be too great a distance from Miltown alright, might look into that :) Corofin or Ennistymon would be closest and ideal, I'm not miles from Inagh - Kilnamona either. I suppose I'm after answering my own question there anyways :D

    Thanks lads.

Me too. The cats have a fighting chance even if Henry sits it out. Hon the Banner.

Things are getting really worrying for Sunday. Clare fm are reporting that Kelly and Honan have been suffering from a virus all week and are doubtful. This is on top of the injuries to McGrath, Galvin and Dillon this week as well as Pat O'Connor. Bugs is suspended. Its tough Im finding it harder trying to think up of a team for Sunday where its probably easier to name a team of players unavailable than available. :(

after winning 3 all ireland under 21's in a row should be no problem getting 15 together that will give kilkenny a game.

I think we will still have individually a good team. But hardly enough to go to Nowlan Park and win. If Kelly, Dillon and McGrath dont make it, were talking very long odds then.

Sorry, just coming back to the thread now.

I think the goal against either Dublin or Limerick was a rebound, not straight in.

For Junior B in North Clare, not sure what defines North Clare, but off the top of my head Ennistymon, Corofin, Inagh-Mona, Clonbonny, Killenana, Tulla & Ruan all field a team, whether the team is a first or second team does depend on the club.

In regards to the game in Nolan park, this game is either going to be the making or breaking of this team I think, no-one expects them to do anything but if they come out with a win then they can drive on from there, if they get hammered it could set them back, if it's a close game it's a moral victory that we don't really do and still get relegated.

I can't see anything but a big win for KK to be honest, I don't think we are physical enough to cope tomorrow and with their forwards coming back we are at a big risk of letting in a lot of goals, I don't see how we're going to win primary possession anywhere either.

I think we'll be beaten by 7 or more points.

The footballers have a massive game in Limerick tomorrow, win that and they can just concentrate on getting ready for the championship, lose and we're in a relegation playoff, the Under 21s being well beaten by Tipp should be a bit of an eye opener for us, I think we'll win by 5 points

    Galvin starts.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,053 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

Kelly and Honan are doubts as well, but should be fit, Flanagan is out while McGrath and Pat O'Connor are touch and go with Galvin does to start. If all those players are ruled out and the other players that have left the panel I would say that the players missing would be a great team that could give a lot of counties a lot of trouble

I thought with all the "injuries" that Clare would be requesting a few players off Kilkenny!
