If your on rent allowance you should try the mid lands lots of houses for rent. Your post is nearly identical to another poster on here last week or the week before. Are you one and the same ?

I've just went through a lot of the houses on daft in the midlands four bed two bathrooms and none accept rent allowance and say so as much in their ads.

    Good luck OP.

If you are moving, you do have to apply for rent supplement again when you move into the property.

OP, I've merged your threads, please stick with this one.

I'd say a lot of landlords will be wanting the deposit and 1st months rent up front. Getting this will probably change their mind.

Also, AFAIK, should you move to a new location, I think you'll have to apply for RA again?

getting deposit and first month up front is standard.

I'm looking anywhere in Rep.Ireland, as long as its safe, between 1 to 3 hours to Dublin, must accept rent allowance, close by walk to primary schools, shops, all amenities. No oil heating. Thanks

what is the importance of stressing 1 to 3 hrs from Dublin? there's nowhere in Ireland more than 3hrs from Dublin!!

It's coming to something when people can't find a house when they're willing to look in a 2 hour commute of Dublin. When is this government going to get round to tackling this issue?

OP make sure you're keeping the pressure on with your local authority. It's absolute madness that social housing is not available to you.

The government should provide free housing for all !!!

The OP is not looking for FREE housing. He is just looking for a home that will take rent allowance. Best of luck to you OP. Have you been in contact with Focus Ireland maybe they can help you. Severe shortage of decent housing is causing huge problems for families looking for a roof over their heads. It should be treated as an emergency by the government and building affordable homes given the topmost priority.

I have them, even with good references, but they're not willing to accept rent allowance tenant. I remain hopeful to see one.

And I live there. So?? Even with the pedal down, and no traffic you can't make Dublin in less than 3.5 to 4 hours...

Back OT. With the new 'initiative' from the Govt making non-acceptance of RA illegal, from the OP we can see it's not going to work. LL's can legitimately refuse a tenant without giving a reason. Quite reasonably, they want someone who can pay the rent without too many issues.

It's very unfair, as it tars all RA tenants like myself (in the past) with the same brush.

Do you not use the motorway?

This is not a transport or commuting forum. Stay on topic please.

Only those who need it. There are plenty of threads where you can debate social policy or indeed start your own I'd be delighted to weigh in.

The OP is raising 4 children, I suspect that leaves little time to get a cushy public sector job or retrain as an IT specialist.

Might be a stupid question (I don't know the rent allowance rules) but could you narrow your search to three beds and look for those with a converted attic that isn't actually a "bedroom". I know from looking to buy many 3 beds have a bedroom in attic but can't be advertised as such, presumably due to planning permission?

Off course i am actually looking for it, but are the landlords ready to accept allowance? no they said. Still searching for both 3 and 4 at the same time.

Why are so many LL not willing to take RA?

It's been discussed ad nauseam in other threads but there is a misguided view amongst some that people in receipt of RA are somehow going to damage the property. While one has to be aware that something given for nothing may not be held as dear as something worked for there are plenty of awful tenants that are more than capable of paying the rent and still damage a property.

The main issue is if someone on RA does it there is no point pursuing them because you can't get blood from a stone.

I'm not sure if I could have packed any more cliches in there but hopefully it briefly answers your question.

Also because landlords want the deposit and a months rent up front, and not be paid in arrears.

Some on RA can do this, but deposit alone means nothing to most landlords.

I accept it for tenants that I think will be good .
In my case I had a very bad experience of a tenant wrecking my house .
The other reason is private tenants give you a month in advance ,rent allowance pays a month behind so in some cases you can be waiting 3 months for your 1st payment .

Have you tried Leitrim,Longford and Cavan ? There is a lower demand for housing and surplus from the boom .

I know it's depressing but all you can do is carry on searching.
Place ads on supermarket noticeboards, in a newspaper, on Gumtree...ask your friends or people you know if they hear of anywhere..
You just have to keep trying.
