Won't be up for much longer! Funeral to go to in the morning :(

    Might record it though.

Sorry for your loss, it's well worth recording, I think a lot of timely reminders of some great music Ireland produced

Miles better than Metallica's version, though

I'll post this, as it is unlikely to be shown.

Great songs obviously, but it's a case of the same oul' same oul.

Surely Auntie Beeb can find a few leftfield acts - Hothouse Flowers, Frank and Walters, Sultans Of Ping

Good shout ... this went up on Youtube a while back. Not a performance, but a nice Sultans clip. Saw them a few years ago, great night out.

Ahhhh, memories of concerts by the lake in UCD :D

Actually Gary Moore is missing which is strange especially in the first program about Belfast and Dublin.

This would have been around time The Hothouse Flowers appeared on Lovejoy, as themselves.

Who wants World Domination, when you can be on Lovejoy!
A band called 'The Hothouse Flowers' is due to appear at a local charity gig, and their manager proves to be an old friend of Tinker's. Before going away with Victoria on a little trip, Lovejoy gets Jane to agree to take in the Flowers. But then the organizer of the gig runs off with the money and one of the band decides to sell his valuable antique harp to make good some of the shortfall, but before Lovejoy can arrrange the sale, the harp also disappears. Lovejoy works his way up to proposing to Victoria, but she turns him down flat and returns to South America

I like the TV Guide billing for this show ...
A compilation of Irish rock performances from the early seventies to the present day, with acts including Thin Lizzy, Ash, the Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers, U2, Sinead O'Connor, the Pogues, Imelda May, Cavan, Hozier and the Divine Comedy. The programme features clips from a variety of BBC shows, including the Old Grey Whistle Test, Top of the Pops, and Later... with Jools Holland

I'm guessing they meant The Strypes :pac:

Therapy? The backdrop looks like a concept for an early version of Angry Birds.

Odd choice for an Ash performance.

Any sign of her parents? :D

Some great Home Videos in this Strypes Doc, they were destined to be in a band ... and there's Tubs on the LLS Toyshow.

I am enjoying this Strypes Doc a lot ... love the stories of them running between two London Clubs on the same night, having to do encores in both.

Seem like sound lads, and hopefully they will have many years of success.

They need to get out of Ca-van, though.

(So should everyone else, but that's for another thread)

Hope they stay more Feelgood than Zeppelin......

Jesus it's easy to forget how good the Rats actually were. It's overshadowed now by Sir Bobs establishment persona.

    U2 are a fascinating phenomenon.
One of the true Irish global brands.

Have to agree with you there!

I've just found the Freddie Mercury tribute concert on Sky Arts Something.... at least it's a bit lively!

Is that Annie Lennox singing Under Pressure? Why the disguise?

And who was that with the hoover last song???

(ETA, oh yes, it clearly is Annie Lennox!)

I remember trying to find this Concert for ages on Video, or to see a repeat on TV.

Then Youtube and Digital TV came along and it's there for free - anytime you like.

Kids these days will never know the joys of looking through records/tapes/cds for hours in record shops, looking for obscure treasures which only occasionally turned up.

Love that Annie Lennox duet with Bowie. She was, and is, pure class. (Not sure about the make-up, though!)

Is that Lisa Stansfield? (she of the hoover earlier)

    Good guess by me!

I want to keep ramping up the volume, but there's kids sleeping next door.....
