Bleh i give up on finding a great space game they all disappoint me.i did have great craic that one time me and my friend flew into the same asteroid belt and just i just decided to kill everyone cause i was bored and everyone came after me. Take that miners !

    When they bring in wings I'll return to it (right now DA:I has me hooked)... I really like the look of No Mans Sky... its got a great Serenity feel about it, very ambitious and seems like it has huge variation in it. If it turns out that its a bag of marketing boll*x I will be SO ANGRY. Angry DeV is not a good DeV either. >:^(

    Yea, I've heard the hyped promises many a times.

    Build you up only to knock you down.

    I think No Mans will suffer the same faith as Elite to an extend. Great framework, but no 'gameplay' as such.

    I wonder if opening it up to modders would benefit, much like Arma 3 has.

    Although Spore was like this from the beginning and we all know how that turned out (penises everywhere). :pac:

    curated community additions are the way things should go. ie: something like Steam Workshop but premoderated by the games creators so that they concur with the direction the modder is taking the game, and the serious modders are not lost in an endless list of "slightly bluer, UI... please like and subscribe!" :)

    i have still meaning to give this a real try done a few tutorials i am really hoping they keep adding to it and while procedural generation is fine for a large game world but i think a little design can go a long way

    Besides the game cannot be worse then X rebirth

    Patch 1.2 beta hits tomorrow, We will finally see full details (except price probably) on the new Fer de Lance and vulture.

    I will hit the beta tomorrow evening to try them out, but i will also want to finish earning my nest egg to buy them both in live. I can spend about 28 million atm and still keep a cargo float + insurance on my trader. But i doubt that will be enough for F de L especially. Will presumably cover a maxed out vulture though.

    Anyway there is another week to go so plenty of time to earn the balance I guess, if the beta doesn't suck up all my gametime.

    It'll take more than a new ship or two to make me want to play this again to be honest. I've no interest in killing endless waves of enemies, hauling cargo, or mining for hours on end. I need some sort of narrative in my games, and get completely bored without it.

    Obviously, Elite was never gonna work for me :P

    I can't argue that the content isn't shallow tbh. Still I am enjoying it for the moment. Part of teh attraction for me is that I figure it will be fantastic in VR when rift (or teh new valve headset) hit the shops in consumer version later this year, really looking forward to that. If i "dock" this game for a while in the meantime when i return with a VR headset I will have a decent stable of ships ready for me.

    One thing i really dislike though: If i increase my combat rank it negatively affects my ability to trade, since the level of ships that interdict me will increase correspondingly. That is just bad design imo.

    If you increase your combat rank it must be because you are milling the opposition so you probably DO need a bit more challenge to make it at least scary to get interdicted.... no?

    Well if i increase combat rank it will be because i am spending time in my viper/vulture/Fer De lance. I have no problem with getting harder opposition when interdicted in one of those.

    Problem is that I am much more likely to be interdicted in my trade ship - when I do not want hard opposition, I will only run away anyway.

    So lots of changes.

    Vulture and F de L added at 22million and 105 million each. O.o what are they smoking?

    Now they cost of all "non-trade" ships will be reduced later this week. Ok maybe they will be worth buying.

    Repair costs have been slashed as have fuel costs. And by slashed I mean refueling anaconda has reduced from several hundred thousand credits to a few thousand.

    Things are moving quickly....

    Not trying to be an ass, but you are choosing Elite Dangerous and not Single player combat training on the launcher?

    wings update is really nice had a nice run with a friend and made around 300k sharing bounties, we sat in a asteriod feild waiting for pirates to pick on miners. actually being able to group up with someone now in open play, jumping with them dropping in to stuff with them has given the game what it needs. i also like the fact you get a bonus from them selling goods, so it means protecting someone in a cargo ship is now a valid option.

    another freind of mine is having issues with the game though his pc meets all requirements and then some but crashes the instant he fires it up, other than windows 8 i cant see any reason why.

    I'm going to be trying it on monday with a group myself. There is an official Wings overview video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl6hdeRHdOk

    As for your friend, it sounds to me like his display config is trying to run the wrong resolution. The game works fine with Windows 8. Ask him to open this file:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\DisplaySettings.xml

    Make sure the file is not read-only in case ED is trying to update it and can't. Also check in the file to see if the resolution is correct and that the display number is correct (your first monitor is usually display 0). He could also try renaming that file and seeing if the game recreates a default one. There is also a way to force ED to autodetect settings on startup but I can't remember how to do that now

    Have you updated the launcher and updated to 1.2?

    Are you connected to server on the start screen?

    Try turning off your firewall and see if that lets you connect and also check to see if your graphics drivers are up to date.

    You could also try uninstalling the entire game and downloading the latest installer.

    I done the same thing last night in a resource area and grouped up with a randomer spent 3 hours hunting pirates. Really enjoyed it and hopefully it happens again!

    I think elite dangerous uses upnp to open ports. Is upnp enabled on your router?

    also check the AppConfig.xml file here: ...Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1001

    The network section should look like this:
    <Network
    	  Port="0"
              upnpenabled="1"
    	  LogFile="netLog"
    	  DatestampLog="1"
             >
    </Network>

    Also check this file:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\AppNetCfg.xml
    Which looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <AppNetCfg ip="xx.xx.xx.xx" upnp="true" router="8" />

    If you installed frontier in the default location I think AppConfig.xml is here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1001

    The other folder with AppNetCfg.xml is:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000\

    but you might have that folder hidden so instead press Windows key + R and type %localappdata% (with the percentages) and hit return. Then browse to \Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000\

    Thanks for that. Found them files under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1000\

    All checks out ok. What is this upnp you speak off, I have a standard eircom Motorola router

    You might be better off starting a thread in the broadband section: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=259

    You'll need your router's model details. Just ask for help with enabling upnp and NAT on that particular router so you get a quicker answer. I had a quick look and I think it might involve lowering the firewall security level on that router but I'm not sure what exact model you have.

    Got it sorted. Port forwarding issue. There goes work for the rest of the day:)

    Good stuff. UPNP handles all the port forwarding automatically which is why I suggested it. Did you have to forward the port manually in the end?
