Just breaking now. Sad for his family and friends. Made a big mark on the airwaves over the years.

Edit: Confirmed by Dave Fanning to Pat Kenny on Newstalk

Grew up listening to him on 2fm and later Today Fm. I'm genuinely gutted to read this. Rip Tony xxx

Tony Fenton, is an Irish radio presenter and DJ, works with Today FM. He has been with Today FM since 2004, having previously presented shows for 18 years on RTÉ 2fm, which he left in 2003. Fenton is "one of Ireland's favourite pop DJs". Wikipedia

I know some people who worked with him. I remember asking if his radio persona was the same as his real life persona. They told me that he was. He was a real nice person apparently.

And only in Jan of this year he was on course to be back on air within a month. Very sad.

Dermot and Dave have gone off air. Today FM is just playing music with no breaks... sad time for the station.

So very sad. Used to love listening to his music documentary/ dedication shows on Sunday evenings on Today FM. One which sticks in my mind was the one he did about the music history of Fleetwood Mac.

He was an incredible presenter, had an eclectic taste in music and will be very missed on the airwaves. Rip Tony.

That's awful, I didn't even know he was ill. Rest in Peace. I have fond memories of travelling on the bus to school, hearing Tony Fenton's voice coming out of the radio every morning. He had such a pleasant voice and he just seemed like such a gentleman.

Awful news. Was not that long ago he was on The Late Late Show saying how he had beaten it and was in great spirits.

Cancer is a relentless cúnt of a disease.

    Farewell Tony.

The man had the ultimate radio voice. His smooth velvety tone always had a calming effect no matter what he was talking about. Gone way before his time. RIP Tony :(
