Yes, definitely. This cold has made a further push this evening and I just feel generally like I have zero in the tank. So for those reasons I'll keep it low mileage and intensity this week with maybe two light sharpening sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. What's your plan?

    ...or can you say??!! ;):D

Sounds good. Something similar, a bit of a mini taper - will include some strides to one or two easy runs. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Righto, crawling out of the woodwork, busy week!!! Thanks very much for the good wishes DG, BG, TbL, Darren, Adrian, Anna, Hilly & Mimojo - much appreciated. Feeling a bit nervous now. Not a confidence inspiring week if I'm being honest.

    Monday: Rest

    Tuesday: Rest

One of these was going to be a rest and another one with easy miles, but both ended up rest days. Monday I started to feel sick with a sore throat, legs felt bleurgh and lacking energy. Decided to take if off and hopefully nip the sickness in the bud. Didn't work and Tuesday was the same. Had the gear on at one point, got delayed before I could head out the door and by the time I was ready to go again I just had zero energy. Flipped flopped about whether it was better to go out or not, in the end I didn't - started on the lemsip intake instead.

Wednesday: Football. Not a good week :( Played a half in goal so only one half outfield this week. One of the girls said to me straight away "you're not right are you?" - I think I gave off a certain lack of energy or something. Anyway, we ended up a woman down for most of the match - one of the girls had to go off injured after 10 mins and we just got over run. Part of the second half ended up with the soul destroying task of chasing around trying to put pressure on as they were able to take advantage of the extra player and pass it around. Moving on quickly from that.....

    Thursday: 4.75 miles @ 10:32, average HR 157bpm, 50 mins easy

Runmute home from work. Met a friend after work for a bit of dinner so I changed into the gear in the restaurant toilet (classy as always ) and headed home from there. All bunged up and sniffly and feeling sh!!te in general. Much milder weather but **old wives tale alert** I kept my DCM long sleeved top on in a vague hope to sweat the cold out. Legs felt achy and heavy, thought the pace was slower than it actually was.

    Friday: 4.25 miles @ 10:36, average HR 159bpm, 45 mins easy

Runmute back in. Felt ok on the run, legs felt a bit better by the end. Continued my well proven scientific method of layering up despite the not cold weather :p Felt rotten cold wise in work initially but actually started feeling better as the day went on.

    Saturday: Rest

So not a great week by any stretch of the imagination. I'm fairly lucky in that I don't get sick very often and it's usually just a head cold at worst, it's just crap timing. I've avoided it until now all winter, it was going to happen eventually! Actually much improved again today so hopefully will continue that into tomorrow. Small bit of tightness at the back of the knee that might relate to that niggle from last week. Don't think it's anything serious though, hopefully the rest day today will help with that.

So, as I said, not a confidence inspiring week but these things happen. I have my A-goal for tomorrow which is sub 2:05 - I don't think that'll be enough to win me this handicap but if I get that I'd be very happy. I'm amazed anyone bet on me at all - feeling the pressure now!!!! Anything better would of course be a bonus and I do have a B-goal which would be pleasing too. But let's go for A :D Time to go catch up on logs etc, put my own bets on as well. Best of luck to all doing Bohermeen and Ballycotton - may our days be windless!!!!

Best of luck tomorrow and hopefully will get to meet and thank you in person for being involved.

Said this already but will say it again - there is no pressure at all on you from outside - only your own pressure for your own personal goals. Run your race not anyone elses :)

Sorry to hear about your rotten week. Stay relaxed....good luck :)

You're welcome, happy to help. Ah I know, and it's only a bit of craic but the competitive side of me doesn't want to let people down, silly I know!! But at the end of the day I have my personal goals and they'll be what I'll be most happy, or disappointed by ultimately. Enjoy it yourself, best of luck with your own race!

Thanks DG - will just focus on the rest of my recent training and not one bad week - fingers crossed the legs play ball!! Good to see you're on the mend, hope you're not too disappointed at missing Ballycotton.

Good luck Laura. It's a nice course but could be exposed enough if it's windy so if you can try and run with a group for shelter. Hope you enjoy it :)

Sorry you haven't been feeling well, Laura... hopefully you are over it and the extra rest will stand to you tomorrow. All the more reason to pace yourself well, and don't go out too fast.
