.pdf files downloading as _pdf.(random 5 characters)

Currently, I'm coming across a lot of .pdf files downloading as _pdf.(random 5 characters).

Example, paper.pdf downloads as paper_pdf.23nkj

As the file that it comes is wrongly named, it won't download.

Have tried this; http://files.avanquest.com/file-extension-_pdf/

Running MS Essentials sometimes finds the bug, and clears it, but not always.

Anyone get a working fix for this one?

Is it happening on all browsers, or just on one particular browser? First thing that's coming to mind is a broken/malicious plugin or extension....

Link works my side (Chrome), but happening to a few people (IE, Firefox, Chrome).

Seems it's possibly a bug, but haven't come across a hotfix that I can give to the people, nor have I found out a virus that could be causing it.

Seems it's been around since before 2013.

And yet still I have found no fix.

You'll know you have it when you can't download anything (it'll stop at 100% with one second to go). Great fun.

Seems "MS Essentials" may cure the underscore issue. Shall know later when the guinea pig rings back :P

If it downloads as paper_pdf and you rename it to paper.pdf it'll then download anything else _pdf as .pdf

The paper_pdf.[5 random characters] issue is fixed by running MS Essentials, but can't find a hotfix to fix it. Have only found MSE to fix it.
