I dont know, never shopped in Superquinn. Did they discontinue them you think?
If it's the handheld scanners you're on about, they still have them in the Supervalue (ex SQ) that I use.

Like most things, they're good when they work.

But the system is apparently programmed to randomly put things through a re-scan (presumably so your back isn't 3/4 full of stuff you haven't scanned).

I was recently in a tearing hurry, had my bag packed and ready to go, went to Superscan checkout, it wanted a re-scan. Sent to another till, where some worker had fainted or collapsed or something (he was fine in the end) so there's about 10 people looking at him and nobody scanning anythng. Went to another till where they were actually dealing with customers and queued up (for a 3rd time), the man ahead of me decided to have a full-blown debate about some cake he'd bought, an assistant was found to saunter back to the cake section to compare, he sauntered back and the debate continued. By this stage I'd nearly had a stroke with annoyance.

    I hate Supervalu.
Come back Feargal Quinn, all is forgiven

tl;dr - handheld scanners are not necessarily the golden ticket to speedy shopping

Micro RFID chips on everything, wander in, pack your bag as you go, wander to pay-point and pop in your card. Probably wouldn't work though, loose fruit and veg would be the stumbler..people would end up eating the chips.

Supermarket fcukwittery brings out the red mist. I don't trust myself with the trolley when we do the weekly shopping, so Mr Pumpkinseeds pushes it. It's just so tempting to mow some fcukwit down with it.

While I tend to buy my cheese and charcuterie from a specialist deli, I've sometimes been forced to pick them up from a supermarket. They wrap the cheese in cellophane. It completely destroys both the taste and mouthfeel of the cheese.

When I was back in Ireland for Christmas I decided I'd prepare a cheeseboard as the dessert for a meal I was making. A selection of Irish cheeses. I went to the local Supervalu. All the cheeses wrapped in cellophane. The course was a disaster as a result. If they don't know how to store and condition the cheeses they carry then they shouldn't bother. Stick to selling easi singles and grated cheddar.

Is cheese not essentially eating a lump of fat???

Simple, ban children. My local Aldi is now opening till 10pm every night so I think Monday at 9.30 could be my new shopping slot.

Well maybe if people weren't so moronic when I'm trying to deal with 4 different people on a checkout at once, I would be a better worker.
