Supermarket improvements

Crazy experience in Tesco earlier made me wonder should they introduce some improvements, put in lanes, yield, roundabouts or even fly overs what ever it takes.
Make the trolley wheels only push in forward direction, cut out this walking backwards nonsence which blocks up the isles. Be made walk around again if you miss you product.
Issue fines for people who stop talking trash to one another while blocking up isles. Dangerous trolley driving while your kids are hanging off the side of it. What other developments can be made to make the supermarket a safer happy place.

Trap doors over pits filled with spikes. If your trolley is greater than a certain weight it triggers the trap door.

At a very minimum people should shop as they are driving, drive/push trolley on the left hand side of the isle. When exiting the end of an isle stop and look and give way to oncoming shoppers to your left and right.

The worst is when the people who weirdly buy the same stuff as you and get to the shelves/areas first and clog up the whole place humming and hawing over nothing. You're either buying the bananas or you're not arsehole.

The Shopping trolley is a highly ignored, underrated gadget of the supermarket retail world. Put some sort of digital interface screen gadget onto each trolley, give the customers their own digital 'loyalty card' or whatever to plug into the trolley interface screen, that loyalty card then turns the interface into the shoppers personal shopping guide for the store, informing the shopper what deals or what products they may like given the shoppers previous buying history. Put a self service barcode scanner on the shopping trolley interface to scan your entire shop and see what the actual bill is while you shop, put an extra credit card slot into the interface so you can pay for your groceries as you go about the place so you can quickly get the hell out of the place too.

That already exists, have not seen it here though yet.

Great idea, but I'm not sure the supermarkets would see a benefit.

People would become more price-conscious. When I'm paying for groceries, I'm often surprised by how my groceries are more expensive than I would have estimated.

If I were seeing the bill tot up as I moved around, I'd be less likely to purchases impulse products, especially alcohol, or items nearest the checkout.

Some sort of signal that shows the discount, almost out of date section is occupied, so I don't have to share the embarrassment of being **** poor with someone else.

I love going to the supermarket, but I'll only do it at strange hours where I can wander around at the dead of my ease. I'm a 31 year old man and I spend more time in the toy sections and looking at movies than I do actually doing the groceries

They have those handheld scanners in most of the larger branches of Albert Heijn (Dutch Tescos) here in the Netherlands. I'm a big fan of them, I like scanning and packing as I go and then not having to queue, unload, repack, talk to other members of my species etc.

Intitial purchase price + maintenance + customers watching what they buy versus paying human beings to do a job the customers can do by themselves.

If they could phase out the staff, with all their greedy national insurance, pensions, holiday pay and bonus scheme demands altogether, they'd be much happier.
