Ooh looks like you'll have the table half full by the time you're finished that racing streak!
I'm going the K-Club, the track mile, and then torn between the Good Friday trail run in Emo or the Oldbridge parkrun on Easter Saturday. Goal 5K is on the 3rd May so I'll have to take a bit of a break from racing before that.
Busy! The things we do to keep ourselves out of mischief ;) I know my friends are doing big internal eye rolls anytime we attempt to arrange a get-together 'oh, can't do that Saturday, I have a race on the Sunday....no, Friday's no good, have a long run on Saturday...' Well why can't my friends take Monday off and meet up Sunday night, Monday is my rest day :D:D

I took a couple of photos today and will try to attach them below. The trail continues along the coast and passes just underneath the Summit car park before a long descent with the Baily Lighthouse in view. Then there’s a lovely wooded section which is always very quiet. Some private houses along here with massive gardens leading down to the trail and awesome sea views. The last mile or so of the loop is less runable because there are lots of stone steps up and down to break your rhythm. Maybe it’s my imagination but the steps felt easier today then ever before. Normally they’re very tough on the legs by that point and a bit of a buzz killer after such a nice run. Those hill sprints must be paying off! Reached the Martello tower and from there it was only 5 mins back to the car.

Sounds like a lovely run and the trails look perfect in the photos :)

It is lovely, and apart from the cliff path section, is pretty quiet. I must actually explore the other trails too because I tend to stick to the same one all the time. Are there any nice trails near you ?

Quite a few trails in the city but they tend to be on the hills.... I do bits of them and will have to do much more to prepare for my 7Hills race in June. But I also want to take myself a bit further out and run along the coastal trails that are flatter ;).

I can vouch for your trails in Edinburgh... those ones around Arthur's Seat are fantastic, but they are for hiking, not running, if you ask me!!! BG, you would love Holyrood park if you haven't been there, it's not unlike howth head, but in the middle of the city and very wild.

I have made a start on Holyrood Anna :).... but only the baby trail so far. Loads of work to be done. I will have to run up to the top of Arthur's seat on 21st of June, with 6 other smaller hills before that (the road running in between makes 15miles in total). So I will be spending a good bit of time practising in Holyrood Park over the next few months.

Yes, Bungy_Girl would love it and would get up those trails much quicker than me!

There are some lovely soft flat trails along the East Lothian coast that I have my eye on for summer running.

Ok, enough ... am going to push myself off the forum and into my trainers now!

Only been to Edinburgh once on a day trip from Glasgow. Sounds like the perfect city break, I'll start dropping hints forthwith! :D

Cheers Murph_D. It's not the actual one I was thinking of but it'll do the job. There used to be a dedicated Howth walkways site with really good maps but it seems to have been taken offline.

    Saturday

Up before the larks with a very excited Bungy Junior and most of the day was spent in pursuit of entertainment for her and her friend. I was €40 down by early evening – I’d barely spend that on a night out myself! On the plus side my ears finally popped (while in one of those soft play centres, jeez they are LOUD) after almost two weeks of being blocked so yay, I am now 100% better and I can stop shouting. Escaped for a run around 5.30pm and did 50 minutes in the wind, getting caught in a couple of brief rain showers. Run ended up being quite slow for the effort but I’ll put that down to the wind and the fact that there were a few hills to contend with.

TOTAL MILES FOR FEBRUARY: 109 (vs. 76 in 2014) :D

Sunday – Djouce Woods Trail (Boardsies on tour #1)

A beautiful sunny spring morning on the northside descended into a wintry snowscape the further south we (annapr, murph_d and aquinn) travelled on the N11 and I’d say we might have bailed but for the ‘group effect’. We met up with adrian522, Inigo and Dubgal in the car park and headed off on the Earl’s Drive loop. All was well (and downhill!) until the river crossing: the bridge of giant logs that used to traverse it was now a selection of twigs. Muggins went over first in an ungainly manner on my hands and knees. A bit over cautious perhaps as everyone else made it over like elegant tightrope walkers. Body Balance has clearly taught me nothing! We started to ascend up the zig zag section of the route which was fairly mucky and was the one place I was afraid of getting lost but my Spidey sense prevailed and no one was left behind as Yeti fodder. The next section around Paddock Lake was flat but mucky and the sleety snow was coming down thick and fast now. We stopped half way round for a photo op (I'll attach later) before completing the loop of the lake and climbing the last hill. Even though it was misty we got a great view of the waterfall before the fast downhill section, then back to the car park for a feast of cake, flapjacks, peanuts and assorted baked goods. A very enjoyable run and so nice to meet the faces behind the names, thanks for the company folks! Not the first time I regretted my daft user name but I guess I’m stuck with it now :o. As we stood in a circle (of trust;)) we agreed conspired to call the distance a round number 5 even though my Strava called it at 7.8Km. Then I got home and the other Strava users from today’s run popped up at 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4Km respectively . You guys must be awesome at running the racing line . The same route is used for and IMRA run during the summer and they have it down for 8K which is good enough for me!

Remember the flat loop where we stopped half way for the photo ? In the middle of that loop there used to be a lake, and it's still called Paddock Lake.

Today is supposed to be a rest day but I have physio this evening (nothing amiss, just a ‘maintenance’ appointment and my legs could do with a bit of revitalisation). Based on experience there will be a short enforced rest period so I’m getting my run in early so as not to disrupt the week too much with all the resting . I’ll have to miss the hill sprints this week as a result but I think I’ve enough hills in the bank from last week for this not to matter too much. The 5K intervals will move to Thursday now which will hopefully be enough recovery before the penultimate XC of the season on Saturday.

4 weeks into the 5K puzzle schedule now and I’m happy with progress. The Dunboyne 4 miler at the end of the month will be a good test because I ran well and to my absolute limit there last year so I know any improvement will be down to increased fitness rather just having a better day this year.

    Tuesday – Rest Day
Switched my days around this week to accommodate Monday’s physical therapy session (got me some revitalised hips, glutes and calves and had my back eased out. Torture but worth it). Took the resting very seriously with a trip to the ‘Ballet’ at the 3 Arena. There was wine (on a school night ). There was also Steve the sax player who I must say is still looking very well. Sigh. But I digress. Maybe I should take this to the rave thread. Or the off topic thread. Or the Hotties of the ‘80s thread :D

    Wednesday – Strength & Conditioning
Ouch. My head hurts. Resting clearly doesn’t agree with me  Had time for a decent run along the coast tonight before my class. So nice to get to run in the evening when it’s still bright. Legs were springy after the physio and the average pace worked out later at close to 8:30 min miles which felt easy so happy with that. My feet started to cramp up in Pilates and the lovely instructor was giving me very helpful advice about getting enough magnesium and potassium. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I was just dehydrated/hungover :o. Onwards and upwards to the gym for the same old 2 sets (planks now up to 65 seconds, yay!) and some foam rolling before Body Balance and a short run home.
    • 5 and a bit miles total (44:00)

    Thursday – 5K effort Intervals
Was dreading these but conditions were perfect this morning so that made it easier. I used the same stretch of tarmac for reps 1,3, and 5 so I could make sure they were reasonably consistent and did the other 2 on a different stretch at what felt like the same effort. I reckon the pace was somewhere between 6.42 and 6.52 min/miles but that’s a rough pen and paper calculation in my Garmin free world. As always the acid test is, could I have done another rep and even though the legs were heavy I think I could have so happy days.
    • 5 miles including 5 x 3 mins @ 5K effort (3 mins rec) 45:00. Tarmac/Grass

Will do another 5 miles tomorrow, then XC on Sat followed by 90 mins run on Sunday. Another 30 mile week beckons, delighted to be finally getting some decent (for me!) mileage in without any adverse effects.

Im in awe of your 5k intervals, super stuff! Do you just pick a stretch that you know will take you 3m @ 5k pace to complete and repeat? And is it completely flat?

Also how are you living in a garmin free world? I think I have become totally OBSESSED with mine, forget it on Tuesday & was going out straight after work, so speeded home at lunch to get it...I think I have a problem!

Hopefully the 5K focus is starting to pay off (or else I completely miscalculated :o). I worked out in advance that I need to be covering approx 700m in 3 mins for current 5K pace so I measured a (very) flat section of the park on google maps in advance so I'd know roughly what to aim for and then worked out afterwards that I'd covered 10 or 20 metres more. It really is a very clunky method I know. I'm still not convinced that I need a garmin and I think I might become surgically attached to it (Garmin Users Anon :D) and let it dictate my every move. I'm a bit wary of running according to a device and not just listening to my legs/lungs. I borrowed one before for a training run and it drove me mad by giving average pace and not actual pace. Now, if I could get one in a nice girly colour that wasn't the size of a mini computer.....

You deffo don't have a problem, pretty sure that's perfectly normal behaviour around these parts although I'm sure your non-running friends think you're cracked ;)

Thanks Annapr, I'll be thrilled if I can break 21.

What's not to love about the 'Ballet ?!? ;) At least they weren't wearing those Bedouin outfits. I was more of a Depeche Mode fan tbh, 'twas Mr. B booked the tickets :pac::pac:

5k focus is most certainly paying off, your log makes for really great reading! And your method that sounds pretty technical to me!! Makes a lot of sense, good tip using google maps so you have an idea of the distance, must use that one myself, cheers.

I am def an Garmin Anon candidate, I do feel like I am checking it A LOT lately, in particular the pace, which as you says gives an average rather than actual which is very annoying. But ya there are some very very pretty ones out there at the moment, plenty of pink going on!

Non runner friends think I went mad a lot time ago :P

This is what I use to work out distance in advance for intervals (for long runs I just use the Strava app on my phone but I never look at it when I'm running). It's handy enough - just put 'Dublin' (or wherever) into the Jump To box and press go and you can zoom in to your own locality. There's miles (english ) or metric options and you can choose 'automatically for runners' and it'll follow existing paths or 'manually' and choose your own off-road routes.

Pink and pretty you say ... well, when you put it like that :D

Great update as usual, flying on the reps, nice one :) I like that link too, I've been using Mapmyrun for long runs and luckily for reps the local park is conveniently graffitti'd marked with mile and KM markers but very useful to know. I think you should get in there and TM that GUA ;) you seem to know your way round that business :D

Forerunner 110 .. nice round screen in gray with a pink stripe if that's girly enough? Not fussed about the pink myself but at least it's not weighing my arm down!

Don't *think* I'm an addict but I found it very useful in telling me to slow the pace down. I'm not fast but have a habit of doing long/easy run too quick for my fitness.

    Friday – Core/Stretch/Run

Pilates was tough this morning. The instructor had us doing roll ups with our feet elevated on what was essentially a mini hula hoop, the idea being that you can’t cheat by using momentum to get yourself off the ground. I couldn’t move!! I honestly don’t know how people get good at Pilates, it seems just when I think I’m improving they throw in some new prop that makes me feel like my core is made of squishy marshmallow. On the contrary Body Balance was great, with some really good hip and glute stretches and I wasn’t as wobbly as usual on the balance bits. Finished up the morning with an easy run around the Raheny 5 route. My easy pace seems to be dropping a bit, hopefully that’ll transfer over to the other paces. Not sure if there’s a direct correlation ?

Saturday – BHAA Alsaa (2 miles XC)

Second last XC race of the season today. Bit of a car crash for various reasons* but not fussed as it’s not an important race and still managed to sneak into the top 15. Will aim to do a bit better in the last race in 2 weeks time.

*heavy legs from 5K session on Thursday (should be Tuesdays but just couldn’t this week)
*got tripped up early on from behind, didn’t go splat but got a bit of a fright and let out a big girly screech. Turns out later people thought someone was screeching because there was a big puddle. Oh god…..:o
*got my shorts caught on one of the marking poles/stakes and dragged it with me a few metres (tape and all) before I could get it loose. Ripped my shorts. Battered my ego. Please let this not have been caught on video :o:o
    • 2 miles XC + 1.5 miles w/up + strides + 1 mile c/d (4.5 miles total)

    Sunday – Long Run

Got out just after 3pm and briefly toyed with the idea of going to the Phoenix Park but in the end decided to head south with DART fare in my pocket and see where I would end up after 90 mins. What a spectacular day! I loved every minute of this run and didn’t want it to end. Went through Fairview Park, East Link, Ringsend Park, Sean McDermott Park, Sandymount Beach, Booterstown, Blackrock Park, Dun Laoghaire (this was jammers, massive queue outside Teddy’s) and ended up in Dalkey with about 5 minutes to go so did a brief tour of the fancy houses on Sorrento Road :D.
Looking at Strava afterwards the Km splits were fairly even which is definitely an improvement over this sort of distance where I used to fade dramatically towards the end. I may be getting the hang of this longer stuff :). Bought a cereal bar and a Lucozade to refuel before getting the DART home.

I'm laughing at your xc exploits... especially the girly screech!

Never occurs to me to do a long run in only one direction... were you not freezing on the dart in your sweaty running gear? Love the idea of running all the way to Dalkey though.

Got the idea from Yaboya's log (I think he wanted to avoid the wind by just running in one direction!) Didn't actually feel cold until the walk home when the temp had dropped a good bit. Feels much easier than laps or an out and back :)
