I need an odd sized 58cm ceramic hob !

    My flush (ish) fit (with surrounding frame), 4 ring ceramic hob has needed to be replaced for quite a while as it has a hairline crack on the glass - but two days ago one of the rings gave up the ghost and it's time for a replacement.
    I removed the hob in order to measure the aperture (fitting hole/ recess) and found that it is 54.5cm wide x 47.9cm deep x 4cm high - cut into a GRANITE worktop.
    I checked almost all of the makes and models of hobs (online and by telephone) and they are all built to fit into a 56cm x 49cm aperture .... does anyone know of a unit that will fit into my existing aperture and save me from having to cut my granite counter top ?

    The original hob was a Creda 42252 - no longer manufactured and replacement glass and a ring/ switch would cost more than a new modern unit.

    Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    ...I don't have an answer, but I do have the same problem: a 66cm hob.............again, cut into quartz worktop and now no longer common.

    I got a price for replacement glass today - £ 660 = € 904 !!!

    Due to the lack of information out there about this subject and due to the indifferent attitude of ALL hob manufacturers, I took it upon myself to go to every single appliance shop in Galway that has a "hob" display section and lifted and measured every single one ... and found them all to be in or around the industry standard 56cm x 49 cm !
    A few days later whilst in Terryland, I spotted the N17 electrical shop (which I thought had closed down) and I went inside and started measuring.
    The very last hob that I measured had one small spacer bracket riveted to each side of the underside casing (bracket shape _i--i_ - four in all - shaped like a simple square hat) - so I measured the casing without the flimsy brackets, knowing that they could be easily removed ... 53cm wide x 46cm deep x 4.5cm high - excellent !
    I got the hob for €190 - took it home, wired it up, turned it on and did a heat test to see how hot the sides of the casing got and am satisfied that it's perfectly safe with a small gap between it and the quartz/ marble - the proprietor of the shop agreed as I rang him for a second opinion.
    I then got my drill out and drilled the heads off the rivets of two of the spacer brackets in order to remove them, and once I had that done I had plenty of room to fit the unit and decide to leave the other two brackets in situ.

    So, the hob is a "Montpellier" Model: MON-CT4. Place of purchase: N17 Electrical store, Terryland, Headford road, Galway. Price: €199 - but I haggled him down to €190.
    It's a good unit with a touch interface, timer, child lock, four rings, 8 heat settings, 1 year warranty and it's easy to use and clean. The top of the hob (work surface) is 58cm wide x 51cm deep and is only a few mm above the worktop.
