Next big sporting test for UPC/UTV is the Rugby World Cup.

TV3 has the Irish rights and they have a very poor reputation with rugby fans. They are promising a HD channel in time for the games though

TV3's coverage of the 2007 RWC... comparing it to the 1989 Brit Awards would actually be justifiable. :o;)

Matt Cooper and Sinead Kissane will be joined on the presentation team by former Munster and Ireland star Liam Toland, Conor McNamara from the BBC and the 42’s Murray Kinsella. TV3 have also announced that the TV3 HD channel will be launched in time for the event.

Well that's a great start anyway. Hope that's a balls.ie line and not an official release by TV3

    Official now anyway

EDIT: oh you mean the "former Munster and Ireland star" line. Sorry, took that up wrong initially. TV3 don't have that on their website anyway

Anyone know whether it will be on SaorView as well?

    I doubt it highly.

DCI Banks will be available to download from the usual sources after 10 PM tonight.
The Johnathan Woss repeat that is airing for Paddy viewers isn't worth watching. Remember the less people view this "channel", the less advertisers, therefore the more imminent it's welcome demise.
Even TV3 has started airing The Chase repeats against the RTE lunchtime news. It's catching on. This thing can be burnt at birth.

I take it you won't be watching their 90 minute programme tomorrow night called 'The Nations Favourite 70's Number 1'. Description is "We reveal the results of an exclusive ITV poll to find out which 70s number one Britain loves the most."

Could they not have changed the title to the UK's Favourite 70's Number 1 instead?

It's an awful mess, the whole thing,, UTV Ireland is a mess,, But the whole situation is a bigger mess,, SKY, UPC, Saorview,, Stuff we had for years is taken away,, but it's still there, it's just taken from our menus. At least the old UTV was from Ulster, that is/was still Ireland. Sure it had shows called, ... Lesser Spotted Ulster, it even had Julian, we liked him.

Now we have GMB forced on us, wall to wall Jeremy Kyle, I could go on, but it has all been said in the thread by other posters, UTV Ireland must be the worst channel I have ever watched, it makes DAVE look good. But it does go to show how bad TV3 is,, if it takes a channel as bad as UTVI to force it to move to HD broadcasting.

As a non-cable, non-satellite Saorview viewer, it was handy to have UTVI for watching Ireland in th'oul cricket against South Africa the other night.

Prime time for UTV Ireland on Saturday night was The Chase where one of the questions was about Peaches Geldofs new TV show.

Channel 4 planning on digging her up and reburying her a la Richard III?

So, they`ve cancelled two episodes of Coronation st tonight because of the England international match...which they aren`t showing.

    Joke of a channel.

I was hoping to catch the England game:(

I`ve just deleted UTV Ireland from my UPC favourites. There is literally nothing on it that i want to watch anymore.

What possible reason could they have for not showing the England match?

They don't have the rights to show it.

So what`s the point of the channel so? They appear to be the first tv channel in history that has actually managed to reduce our viewing options.

I've no idea. Possibly to get a place on the Sky EPG to sell adverts during the Soaps.

But for anyone who had the old UTV station on Cable it is a very poor imitation.

I haven't been following this UTV Ireland business but the whole thing is a bit off, I know it's not officially called Ulster Television anymore but that is still what the UTV stands for, so basically it is called Ulster Television Ireland, some of Ulster is actually in the Irish republic anyway and most of its shows are English. Irish TV on sky is the only real Irish TV channel in my opinion.

How? Corrie's not being broadcast tonight in the UK either? ITV postponed it for the football - how is that UTV Ireland's fault? They can't show what they don't have?

ITV cancelled it. I am sure ITV don't want other broadcasters to show episodes days before they do.

You don`t blame them for denying Irish people access to major sporting events that they had access to before?

How, precisely, do you expect UTV Ireland to show episodes of Corrie that do not exist?

England v Lithuania is a major spoorting event? Next I'll be reading posts where people say they miss the sofa adverts.

Its an EURO qualifier so yes its major. Others games UTV will be missing include Brazil v Chile on Sunday.

A friendly, again not a major sporting event.

Sure but its a big game Brazil v Chile is a big game even if its a friendly - people will want to watch. Not you obviously!

I'll watch it if I'm doing nothing else.
