    I'd be surprised if the writers for the Journal were not members of Boards, Politics.ie, Reddit /r/ireland etc. "Irish cyberspace" is very small with the same pool of people active across the various Irish fora. That's why we read the exact same quintessentially Irish jokes about Bosco, leaving the immersion on and Glenroe on Boards as we do over at the Journal.

    I agree.
    It's not what it used to be.

    I fondly remember your disastrous stint as an AH mod. Utterly joyless moderation as one much maligned poster was to pithily observe.

    Joeie & The Like? These modern band names are rubbish!

    True.
    I prefer Huey Lewis and the News.

    Meh, essay writing, reviewing poetry and learning off Hamlet quotes =/= journalism.

    Joe.ie =/= journalism either. ;)

    I'm sorry, but anyone who in any way wants to work with words would not be doing pass English. Sub-editors act as quality control but the journalists themselves should have excellent grammar/spelling etc. What the sub-editor needs to fix should be as little as possible.

    A tad depressing that people don't think that a budding journalist should have exemplary knowledge of grammar/spelling/syntax. :(

    Nostalgia is fucking stupid.

    A backlash against nostalgia seems to gaining pace lately. Not sure where this has come from, maybe nostalgia fatigue.

    Meanwhile, research seems to point to nostalgia being very good for mental well-being, rather than hold us back:
