    Hey all,

Im looking to buy a new car and this has been laid in front of me by a friend of the family, now ive test driven the car and it feels incredibly solid and clean for a 7 year old car.

However to err on the side of caution, is there anything i should keep an eye out for? Any known issues?

Would 105bhp in a car that weight not be very underpowered?

There's issues with the electronic parking brake failing in them.

I ran a 140bhp B7 Passat as a company car for a year and was expecting the worst when went back to an 08 1.9 TDI. 105 bhp. To be honest - its fine for normal driving purposes - pulls strongly through a narrow enough power band but never feels underpowered. It could do with a sixth gear though..

Reliability wise - the 08's onwards are fine mine is coming up to 300k kms no major problems in last 2+ years of ownership.

I would go for a Comfortline spec and look for full service history with correct vw 507spec oil changes.

I have a neighbour that has a 06 one from new 1.9tdi and considering the size of the car they are fine power wise. How quick a car feels depends soley on what your use to driving if you are use to a 1.0l yaris a 1.9tdi passat will feel like a rocket if your use to drive a golf r32 the same passat will feel dead. But in general they are fine not dangerous slow or anything like that and would be fine for most driver.

Is it the TDI the OP is talking about? That would probably be okay given its torque.

A petrol on the other hand...
