Had an example of this last night when my wife decided that 3 minutes before everything was going to be ready and about to be dished up would be a great time to empty and restock the dishwasher :pac:

The worst bit is when you ask them to stop or move and they look all hurt and go "I was just trying to help" *insert wounded face here*. Now I'm irritated and I feel bad about it!

They can be handy at times. Every time the ex came into my (teeny weeny) kitchen I'd hand him a wooden spoon and station him at the cooker to stir the sauce as it thickened. Having a slave helper to stir continuously was a real help when I was trying to make the rest of the dinner

Bought a jar of this - has anyone tried it?

    IDShot_225x225.jpg

It's delicious! I tried this in a friends house last week (having always been a committed Branston fan) but in actual fact this one is WAYY nicer IMHO as it's got quite an acidic taste to it which cuts through the general moreish melty loveliness of a strong extra mature or a gooey chaumes wonderfully. You make me want to go and have a sammich now! :)

Branston! That's the one Dad used to get!

I love Heinz, they seem to do just about all their foods really well (but not cheese ravioli). I'll fight anyone who says that their mayonnaise isn't the best!

Can anyone tell me where in the city centre I can get yeast? Going to try the Swedish semlar...

    Lidl mayo FTW, btw.

Dried yeast? Aldi stock it in their baking section.

All these posts about "kitchen ownership" made me LOL! Ditto here. My Dad is the worst offender. He usually stands between the cooker and sink or his other favourite place is next to the fridge. Meanwhile I'm trying to get dinner sorted with the 2 monkeys up to all sorts of mischief (especially when he's around!) and he'll ask something like "Isn't Tiger Woods playing shocking these days" . Sometimes I just throw him a look that says "Go play with the kids" and it's all fine.

Myself & the husband often cook together, but there are strict rules - one person is the chef and the other is the wine pourer/ chat maker. We can't both be in charge of one dish or we'd never get anything made. However I love lurking around the kitchen swilling wine when he's stirring a lovely risotto, it also keeps him going when I top up his glass!

Some slaves can't even do that, "Why is it burning?" "because you're not STIRRING it" "I am!" "NO YOU'RE JUST PADDLING AROUND THE ****ing TOP" "I'm just trying to help, you're horrible, I hate you" .........silent dinner

Oh thank god, I thought that kind of thing only happened in my house!

There was a knife pointed once in an old kitchen. And it wasn't at an onion. There's now only 1 chef in the kitchen for meal time.

ah right so. I live near two Lidls and am rarely in Aldi. I'll go have a look.
    Many thanks.

I was in Aldi the other day for the first time in a long long time (I don't shop there, it depresses me too much) and I grabbed a box of yeast while I was there. 99c versus €2.99 in Supervalu. Can't go wrong really. Although I see on the Tesco website that they now have a 100g tin of yeast for €1.39.

I have a picture now in my head of you & Mrs oB in the kitchen preparing dinner & singing...

"Cream coloured ponies and crisp apple strudels,
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles,
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings,
These are a few of my favorite things!"

We have no door in our kitchen - and it's exactly for the above that I bought and installed this: http://www.ikea.com/fr/fr/catalog/products/50226520/

(It was ostensibly for keeping baby safe but it also keeps pests, big and small, out of the kitchen! :p )

I must get one of those! Would be great for letting the dogs keep an eye on me without getting under my feet

That particular gate is good because you don't have to screw it into the door frame.

I made brownies for my fiance last night, for him to bring to work this morning. The eejit put them down to put his coat on, and walked out without them . Now I have them with me and either can give them to my very new colleagues at my place (and we're already overrun with baked things on Fridays), or travel 45 minutes out of my way after work to drop them off at closing time at his place. So frustrating when you go to all that effort for nothing!

I regularly bake for my husband's office and I hate when he forgets to bring it in :(

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

I've just put them out here, but the office is quiet so I can see them coming home with me. I'm mostly annoyed because now I'll have to battle with my willpower not to eat them all! :D At least when they were going to his work, they'd all have been eaten and I'd have the joy of baking but none of the associated fatness...

When I bake I like to offload most of it too - otherwise I'd eat way too much of it.

    Hear, hear.
These days I halve most bakes, for that very reason of over indulging.

Very excited about today's late lunch/early dinner - a huge leg of lamb has been slow cooked in the oven since this morning.
