Seen a really nice R8 again today in Dublin 4 near St Vincents, its dark grey or black. Seen it a few times and always stands out because of how low the body is.

Was going through my car keys there trying to tidy them up a bit as there is a load of door keys and keyrings on it. One key that was on it is for a front door at home which we changed a year ago :pac: there is another key on it that I dont have the first clue what it's actually for im trying to remember but can't.

What do you expect you will be paying? (this sounds demeaning but its just a question)

As you have not had your license long most insurance companies will want you driving a 1lt Micra or Yaris. Sometimes brokers can work their magic and convert your named driver experience in to real experience. Most places this year didnt want to quote me on any thing JDM unless I was over 30 and had at least 5 years NCB.

My first policey on my own license was €2200 for the FTO with Liberty and €600 on my JDM civic with XS(shame they are gone) and I was much older than you.

I don't know what insurance companies have against JDM cars. It's either extortionate rates or they don't insure them.

Been driving nearly 4 years, full licence nearly 2 years.
    No claims.

I expected between €1600-€1800 and I'd have been happy with that, getting quotes of €2700... **** that.

I change my location and it drops by a good few hundred.

Thats cool, I think they are very realistic expectations, but bear in mind that alot of online insurance websites are designed to bring you to a page telling you to ring them if it thinks the car is imported. I could not get a realistic quote online at all last year. I went through this broker Cross Insurances Ltd they have an office in Ballyfermot if you wanted to call in. I think I ended up paying around €800.

I don't know what insurance companies have against JDM cars. It's either extortionate rates or they don't insure them.

    Speculative here but....

Dating back to Celtic tiger era - say 03 to 07 type era - JDMs were often driven by "boy racer" types and young fellas - so seen as a risk from that view point. You may find that the accident statistics mean that JDM is seen as higher risk.

Id also say a significant proportion of the "boyracer" cars were JDM - Glanzas are a VERY obvious example as they were NEVER sold in Europe so are ALL JDM. This increases the risk factor

Parts are often different - the K11 Nissan Micra was known as the Nissan March in Japan - and - apparently things like body panels were different.

Your Carina and Corollas might have been available in Ireland brand new - BUT some of the JDM versions weren't - for example - JDM spec Corolla 2.0 diesel came with Auto option - one such car was in the bangernomics thread a few months back.

Theres also a MAD version of the JDM version of the Mk 1 Avensis with a 2.0 petrol TURBO engine and 4wd (auto only though I think)

Finally I reckon insurers like to keep things "nice and simple" - so 1.6 2007 Avensis - Irish car - no problem.

Try insuring the JDM version with say a 2.4 engine - and it just gets messy from their point of view - they don't want the hassle.

Liking the look of this a6 at the moment but not trusting his calculation of the vrt.

Is there a way I can calculate it without the reg?

You can throw in the details without the reg, I just did it there and picked April as the month of first reg, came to €594, not too far off what he states.

Revenue's website lets you put the details in.

It does indeed, replace the T-sport badge with a 1.0 vvti badge.:D

Thats the problem, the engine doesn't want to die despite its predicament! But I'm going to have a rip at blowing it up :D

As for the engine, its an XUD9TE, turbo is a garrett GT2259v, mutant 10mm pump... Give it a wee bit extra grunt ;)

A fizzy drink spilled all over my passenger seat and I didn't notice till I was home as it was dark thank god for the waterproof seat covers as the light colour seats mark very easy.

In other news fuel prices seem to be creeping up again properly worked out my mpg too for the first time in a while 53.02 mpg over 930 km not too bad as the car needs a full service in 1k km too including fuel filter.

Gave the Focus a good going over for the last 2-3 days. I have really taken to it, since. I like it a lot.

I have a question though - does anyone know what's going on with the perfectly circular holes that are cut into the plastic on the left and right here (beside the headrests)?

    41AAA78D344E422F9D182DFC5E9D6607-0000333410-0003729653-01024L-7AF385FAC8484126B22ACBA59DF44875.jpg

Am I missing a part from the car? Or are these just holes that someone put in it for fitting a cage or something?

Would say a cage for dog more then likely ya.

A remap to your car (Golf Tdi?) would work wonders for it and probably give a few more mpg. :)

Yep it's a golf 1.9tdi 105bhp. I've never been a fan of remaps but then I've never really looked into it that much and some people do seem to have great success with it. I don't think I'll have it long enough to make it worth my while to do it.
