do people genuinely think fellaini is now better than mata in the no 10 role or are we just resigned to the fact the LVG is not the right man for the job ie he doesn't know his best team and doesn't know how to get the best out of the players?

Returning from my 2 week "vacation", after reading some of the posts here lately, might be worth taking another 2 weeks off.

This is the obvious choice in my opinion. Stop messing with 3-5-2 and narrow diamonds because it doesn't suit the players, and play the players in their best positions. If you were chasing a game, Fellaini on up top would be on option too.

I'd prefer Rooney in Mata's posish and RvP or Falcao up there.

Except that it's leaving out the 2nd best player of the season

Well there are options there for swapping out players. You could play Rooney behind RvP or swap Januzaj for young.....or play Fellaini instead of Rooney if chasing a game. There are options there.

But for me the most important aspect is keeping the shape. Make like for like swaps, play the players in roles most suited to them and stop tinkering. Consistency is one of the most important aspects in football and it's being overlooked. Playing different personnel and systems every game is hurting the team.

Or would they just like to see him given a chance there in a team where players are playing in positions where they can make the most impact, thus maximizing the chance of CL qualification?

Who would have thought last season we'd be calling for Young ahead of Januzaj and Fellaini ahead of Mata, but they're the ones who are performing...

Fellaini vs Mata would in the #10 role would depend entirely on the opposition in my view. Either way, the other one will be available on the bench.

    Terrible altogether.

Lost one match in January , only defeat in about 25 games, still in the cup and 3rd in the league.

    Complete disaster altogether

It just occurred to me that if things don't work out with LvG and he leaves after a big row with the Glazers, Pep will be along in a couple of years to win all the trophies with United.

That's how it works isn't it?

I love it if we got Pep after LvG.

I think you will find no one is giving out about results, but fans are complaining about our terrible performances, players played out of positions and some players getting little to no game time

Fellaini is able to use his strength to help gain possession, he is very good at bringing down a ball from the air using his chest and controlling the ball. He is able to play intelligent football and have the awareness needed, like last night when he hit the ball and the goalkeeper saved it but rebounded back to him and smashed it into the net. He showed he is a predator.
He is doing what one would have expected of him when he joined, and is an asset to the team.

Nice that he scored with Moyes there to see and Herrera too whom Moyes wanted.

Ashley Young is like a new player this season too, and while most wanted him gone less than 12 months ago (including myself) he has shown what he can offer and now most would think it insane if he was sold on which he won't be. Van Gaal has turned him into a multi-purpose player.
He has can attack but his defensive duties this season saved us from conceding too.
It is nice to be proven wrong about a player whom was doubted.

Falcao...I so want him to work out for us, but the goals are not flowing, one can argue the service is bad, but he doesn't look the player we all loved and want him to be.
At this stage I think maybe we should just look to Lacazette or Dybala, or maybe even both to replace Falcao and RVP. Two young strikers, Dybala has been described as the new Aguero and also from Argentina and France are a rising force.
Probably get both for the cost of Falcao plus money from selling RVP. both are young and are the future, but performing at a very high level.

Varane rumoured to be very unhappy at being third choice, claims Ancelotti would sell for €25 million plus.

My opinion, we need maybe two centre backs, at least one world class midfielder, a striker like Lacazette who is a goal machine and young and a right winger like Reus who would work in a 4-3-3 formation.

Varane if he is unsettled, just make him more unsettled and get him to ask for a transfer, kinda like what Rojo did to get his move.
Hummels or Laporte, or both if no Varane.
Pogba if he really does still love United like he claimed.
Reus if no miracle happens and no Ronaldo, not expecting miracles so Reus...
    Lacazette.
We can't afford a new right back, sorry.

    Sell Evans and RVP...

We would have a large squad of quality to compete for all titles including the CL title.
    Ok, now back to reality....

The metro claim that the daily star claims that there are claims in Spain that Real Madrid are willing to sell Ronaldo for £180 million and United are prepared to pay it.
They claim Ronaldo has fallen out with senior management at the club and his sale has been cleared.
Yes I totally believe it too, all very reliable sources...the metro, daily star and the most reliable of all are the unknown Spanish sources the story is based on.

Well thanks for letting us know.

But if he did return, I would have to do an Ashley Young style U turn and say I was wrong about these claims.
    I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong.
    Sometimes it's nice...lol

I think Young's renaissance makes me wonder what kinda damage United could possibly do if we had a proper winger on the other end... despite his cross last night Tony V is shocking with both feet, any bit of trickery and guile on the opposite wing and it would result in us getting a lot more ball into the strikers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,111 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

Valencia has two default ways of crossing the ball. Stand it up so the keeper can catch it 9 times out of 10 or smash it as hard as possible and hope it gets a deflection. It's infuriating.

Suppose you could also include hitting the first man as his 3rd.

I wonder where United could find a proper winger for the other side...

If it wasn't for this bizarre crossing disease of his he'd be having a brilliant season.

Has barely had a defensive foot wrong in a long while that I can remember, constantly provides an out ball to team-mates and gets into great attacking positions.

I'd be very slow to write Valencia off at this point, since LVG has got him defending very competently it seems pretty likely to me he'll be able to get him contributing more at the other end as well. The first part of that seems the much trickier proposition.

Shaw and ADM one side . Seamus Coleman and Young the other. Januzaj could displace young in time. Twould be a width fest.
