Was OK, caught out a couple of times but to be expected given how often he's played there.
Nothing special last night I thought.

yea just thinking down the line, if we do get top 4 but the standard of football doesn't get better would you be happy to keep the current manager?

    Yes I would.

Now im unhappy as anybody about our form, but I think getting rid of LVG would be a step back.

Moyes left a ruin that takes more then season to amend.

Was happy with his input, went forward well, and didn't sht the bed everytime he received the ball, seems a lot more comfortable than the likes of Jones and Smalling.

I don't think any of our players had a "great" game but McNair did well at RB. He was caught out of position a few times but that will improve with game time. He has a good eye for a pass, better crossing and a better football brain than Valencia IMO.

Hope he starts at RB again against Preston.

Kightly on the left wing for Burnley seemed to have an extra yard of pace which didnt help. I thought he played well last night and against Cambridge.

Thought he played very well against Cambridge alright. Be interesting to see how he develops in that position, if he continues to be played there.

I'm more concerned with the choice to move what I think is our best central defender to left back. Rojo should be playing in the centre.

I thought our passing was shocking last night. The simplest of balls couldn't even work. As for our defense.. Jonny Evans gave a masterclass in the art of how not to be a footballer. He was so bad it was laughable.

Was more of a case that we had no one else to play there bar moving Blind to LB and it's looking certain that Blind is playing the holding midfield role and is there to stay. Rojo should be back at CB next game when Shaw returns.

    Yes.

Last season, when it was clear Moyes wasn't working and we were going to miss the top 4, a lot of people gave out about the idea of swapping a manager so quickly; that they didn't want to become like other clubs who swap managers out every year just because they barely missed set targets. And the counter argument was that Moyes was missing easy enough goals which had been reduced time and time again (title challenge, no the top of the pack after the top 2, no top 4, no top 5, no top 6 but with nice football, etc). And that if a manager came in and achieved a goal, they should keep their job; that it wouldn't be a spoiled attitude of changing the manager over and over cause there wasn't instant success.

So at the start of the year, the general consensus was that Top 4 was the goal for this year. And as of this moment, LVG is achieving that. And in your hypothetical, you're asking if we should sack him if he achieves the goal everyone (or at least the majority) would have been happy with. Of course he should keep his job.

If he gets us back into Europe, with the defense problems, with the injury problems and with the poor form, then I'd say of course he keeps going. It would be the height of hypocrisy, after years of poking fun at other clubs, if a manager achieves a goal and we turf him out anyway.

How about if we don't get top 4, should LVG be kept on then? It would also be the height of hypocrisy if he wasn't held to the same standards Moyes was. We are arguably playing as bad now under LVG than Moyes but are lucky De Gea is having a great season and the other top 4 contenders are dropping so many points.

The precedent of a revolving door of managers was set last year sacking Moyes after 1 season. That is a big reason why those of us who supported Moyes for most of the season were saying not to sack him. It was clear that the squad had major defensive problems and a midfield that needed a lot of investment. Now we have a proven manger and the problems are still there.

Question to anyone calling for LVG's head/talking of getting rid of him: who would you replace him with that is available?

Anyone who wants rid of LVG is not worth taking serious in fairness. I think we all are unhappy with the football, but don't see anyone calling for him to be sacked.

If he fails to make top 4, then the discussions will have to be had. But there'll still be a spectrum; does he miss top 4 on goal difference or a point? Do we get some form between now and then? Moyes didn't just miss top 4, he was out of the running for it by February. He had lost players and lost the fans, even if some didn't want to admit that to themselves. On the other hand, LVG has had a lot more to work with, financially.

There'll certainly be a justified discussion should we fail to hit top 4, and honestly, I don't know if he would stay. But if he hits top 4, I'd argue he 100% stays on.

Calling for him to be sacked was just me choosing my words poorly. I agree with you though. I've just seen a number of people saying he's not good enough or he should be gone next year etc. not just here but elsewhere. I'm just genuinely curious as to who those people think could be brought in.

I think for anyone to think of sacking LVG right now is honestly being ridiculous. There is no better replacement for him at the moment and we should be grateful that such a manager was available and willing to take over the club after a devastating season.

Yes we are not playing great football and yes he is making some mistakes with positions of the players but even though we have these problems we are 3rd in the table. And we can't say now that we are lucky to be in this position as the teams below us are in form and are getting better and better.

I'm honestly very excited by LVG and for the future as when we are playing bad we are third place in the league so when we are in good form imagine what could happen :)

If Shadowcomplex could sign the players to fill his fantasy teams i would hire him to replace LVG in the morning.

Goal difference or margin of missing out on top 4 shouldn't be a factor. Champions league football is vital for the club given the amount of sponsorships that depend on it and in terms of attracting the best players. I know it didn't impact signings this year but that won't continue if champions league football is missed out on consistently. Sponsors or players won't care if the club was close or not.

There is a serious threat of missing top 4 if LVG doesn't change his tactics. I hope he does as sacking managers so soon will only create more problems. He has a team more than capable of getting top 4 comfortably so he will only have himself and his mad decisions to blame if he does get sacked.

I'm not calling for him to be sacked, at the moment, if your referring to me but I would go for Klopp as the next manager. I haven't seen much of Dortmund this year to see what has gone wrong but the style of football I've seen them play in previous seasons has been quality and successful. Imagine what he could do with united's budget.

Not only would he be able to sign them, he'd do it on a shoestring and then get bangkok in to take all the corners. #DareToShadowcomplex

The most worrying part of this is the brand of football we're playing, had similar problems under Moyes and in truth the same problems in Fergies last few years. No fluidity and a slow tempo, as if its the first time the players were playing together. If LVG does get 4th I think he`ll be straight after someone like Strootman, a tough physical presence in midfield. He has Rooney there now, maybe he feels Herrera is too lightweight. If he does miss the CL its going to result in a meltdown, an entertaining meltdown but a meltdown none the less

Remaining fixtures are pretty tough, if we can get 3 wins in the next 3 games it will be a big boost. Spurs Liverpool City Chelsea Everton is a hard run

    Sunderland H

    Liverpool A

Are Everton really anything to fear this season? I haven't watched many of their games this year so I ask based mostly on results.

Haven't been good at all but still think it`ll be tough at Goodison Park

Ask yourself, have they got better of worse under LvG? Apart from Young, there is no player that has got better

RVP, Mata, Carrick have all played better thi season. As you say, Young has improved. Arguably Jones has also improved.
Maybe Januzaj has regressed a bit, although he wasn't a world beater last year.

Only DDG and Rooney were good last season, and LVG basically builds the team around them.

Lots of new players came in so can't compare with last year, and deadwood has left.

Who else is there to compare?

LVG was only in the job about 5 minutes when Evans was shocking v MK Dons. Moyes didn't pick Evans at all, so couldn't say LVG ruined him or anything.

They do have a habit in recent years of giving United a tough time anyway.

All I can say is it has me worried with our current form - we could drop points in/lose all/some of the ones in bold, not to mention the fact a surprise from the others is also possible.

Its going to be touch and go!
