Was looking at my car there this morning, it looked a bit dirtier lately. Then it hit me. I got it washed for my cousins wedding last July! I remember it well, because the machine broke my car ariel. Still have the receipt for the wash.

Spotted my dads old Mini Cooper S on the road this morning. The one that blew a spark plug out of the head, blew both Xenon lights and had constant electrical gremlins in the 3 years he had it from new. He sold it 2009 with 80,000km. Spotted it for sale a couple of years ago advertised with 50,000 km. Drove by this morning with blue smoke pouring out the back :-(

Such a shame. Was a beautiful car, had every option going and the dealership he bought it in wanted to borrow it for a show car.

Sometimes you hear of these bothersome vehicles that give issues from new and wonder do they ever end up being fixed.

Know of a Sprinter that ended up at SIX months old being parked up for TWO years at one point due to a serious intermittent fault that "no one could get to the bottom of"

Seen it back on the road - and enquiries revealed that amazingly - someone had subsequently fixed it and it was fault free .

Seen a focus I was going to buy, on the road today. Missed it by hours last July. Driven by an old man. Who knew they could move so fast and snap it up?! Was a lovely ghia spec, mild silver, MO reg and all. Everything colour coded. Both bumpers were in need of a respray, and in doing so I had planned to completely colour code them, and add 17" st alloys. Alas, not to be...

That will be a pig to clean. I find mine hard to clean if I leave it longer than 2 weeks. Tar built up, brake dust that won't come off too handy. *shudder*

Gave it a quick blast of the powerwasher and brush when the smallies were in bed. Will edit this tonight and stick up a before and after pic. Needs a bit of love and a few bits replaced. 2 center pieces for the alloys, and a few nut covers. The tar, jaysus I could be all day at that one. Had it 10 years in November, so feel I should have it looking good for old times sake. A rip on the drivers seat, which toasted pickles advised where I could get it sorted. No idea what it will cost to get the ariel sorted. Vw were a bit shy on details when I asked for a price.

My dad got one of the first navaras in 2006 when they first came to ireland. Nice jeep and all two weeks into ownership abs, traction control lights started coming on the dash. Took it to the garage it took them a month to properly diagnose the fault them being so new they weren't use to them. It needed a sensor and something else the problem was literally there was no spare parts in europe for them at the time as nissan were in such a rush to get them rolled out they didn't have any spare parts. Anyway it took the guts of 6 months to get the parts and get the jeep back. Although they did give him a top of the range xtrail with literally every optional extra on it while he was waiting so it wasn't too bad he put a load of mileage on that and handed it back :pac:

Seems strange that Micks Garage would mess around like that, it's been a while since I last ordered anything from them but I never had an issue, other than it took a while to process orders with multiple items in them. Thought they were good pricewise too, although I did get 5L oil and filter from local motor factors for a little under €30.

Nice and clean Golf, beertons. Maybe remove the rear wheel centre cap, or get a new one for the front. :)

The stirring wheel must be an optional extra

I teach 5/6 year olds and not one of them would write as poorly as this!

As ye may be aware, I cancelled my FBD policy 11 months into it. Chap on the phone never mentioned that I'd lose my No Claims for that year, and it never entered my head.

So I rang them back today, to see would they re-activate my policy, or acknowledge the two years on a new quote. They said they can't/won't re-open an old policy, but they would offer to honour 2 years NCB (even though I will only have 1 year with any other company). So I say okay, and proceed with the quote.

They quote me for the 01 Focus i just bought. An exceptionally competitive €1,527. Needless to say I actually laughed and said thanks, but no thanks.

Rang 123.ie and got a quote... of €2,500! At this point I feel like getting on my knees and grovelling back to FBD and hoping they'll take me back.

Then I ring Chill, who come in at €888. Now ye're talkin'. I'm told this price only applies if I sign up now, and I have a 14 day cooling off period to cancel, and that admin fees etc wont be charged on a change of mind until 14 days after the policy starts. Fine says, I, and I sign up. They take the deposit and we all breathe a sigh of relief.

Then the phone rings, and Campion ring me back after I filled in an online quotation earlier in the day, but it didn't work for some reason (got stuck in an infinite loading loop, so I X'ed out and forgot all about it). They say the best they can do is around €1,500. I tell them that Chill have me at €888. They say they don't understand how Chill can do that, as they (Campion) deal with more insurers than Chill do.

He asks me to hold on a minute and he'll ring me back, he just has to make a call. He rings me back 5 minutes later with a quote of €715!

I tell him to give me a reference number, that cancelling with Chill won't cost me anything (except the pain of waiting for the refund) and that I'd definitely sign up when I get my deposit back from Chill.

Ring back Chill who say they're gonna charge a €100 admin fee. I shoot them down fairly quickly and tell them I want a full refund, all calls are recorded and they can verify amongst themselves that they told me I'd have no fees if I cancel within 14 days. They tell me to email them telling them I want to cancel and they'll issue me a refund and they'll 'find out about the admin fee amongst themselves' (so I don't know if that means they're gonna charge me the fee or not!?).

Even if they do, I'm still better off switching to Campion who offered a cheaper price and, strangely enough, more comprehensive package (breakdown assist, etc.). That said, I'm not gonna let them take the €100 cancellation fee. I'll fight them tooth and nail on that if they try to act the bollocks.

So yeah... from €2,500 to €715... Goes to show the value of shopping around, alright!

They look like the centre caps that my mk5 has granted different alloys if so the centre caps are 10 euro from a vw dealer each. As I've had to replace two. So they are not too expensive and the car certainly looks better with all four. Other than that looks like a clean mk4 nice colour too :)

The €715 is with 1 or 2 years NCB? What engine is in the Focus?

    €715 is with 1 year NCB. It's a 1.6 petrol.

It's also Third party fire and theft. Last policy i had was ~€850 and was Third party only.

Not bad. I'm paying €950 with 1 year NCB, 2000 VW Bora 1.6, Third party only.
