    does anyone know if when selecting photos to import from a memory card on i photo and I'm using command and the mouse pad to select only certain photos is ther a way to scroll up and down without losing the selected photos

    Guessing you don't have a scroll on your mouse........ the scroll bar on the RHS can be used while selections are made, and you won't loose your selections if you release the cmd key.

    Its on a mac book air so its a mouse pad.
    the side bar doesnt come up when i have items selected

    No problem. If you go into System Preferences you can customise it a bit i.e. scroll direction.

    This works everywhere on OS X by the way. There are a lot of gestures on those trackpads that will make getting around your Mac very easy.
