    Never heard of it myself, but I would not think it would be a good idea to leave the slow cooker unattended with an inch of fat in it.....

    They don't, unfortunately. You wrap them in foil, stack 'em up, and put it on for about 6 hours. They're not quite the same as doing them in the oven, but still very tasty.

    Planning to make savoury mince with rice this evening. I have beef mince, onions, leeks, peppers, kidney beans, frozen peas, baby corn, mangetout to throw in. Can't wait to get cracking!

    I don't think they'd freeze great- can't beat spuds from the oven even if you cook them in the microwave and then give them 10 mins in the oven - just had baked golden wonders slathered in butter with dinner / yum

    They will freeze fine and will be perfectly edible, but they won't taste like baked potatoes.Spuds are spuds (million varieties et al) what makes them really different is how you cook them, change that and they cannot be the same.

    Industrial purveyors of food would like us to believe that packets of frozen roast potatoes and frozen Yorkshire puddings will transport us back to an idylic time when we didn't do the cooking but just enjoyed the eating. They are lying bar stewards.

    got family calling over tomorrow so busy today getting food ready. going to do pulled pork neck, homemade sausage rolls, a potato and cauliflower curry plus a pasta dish called Pasticcio.

    bit of a mixed bag but should keep everybody happy.

    Tip: Add a couple of teaspoons of ground up fennel seeds to the sausagemeat.

    That's about what I was thinking. I was looking for chicken stock yesterday and the supermarket had a tub of stock powder for about $5, then across the aisle in the 'ethnic' ingredients section, they had broth powder for for $2.50. I figured they were essentially the same thing.

    Is there anything more annoying than opening the fridge to the smell of a chicken that, in 8 hours, has gone from fine to WOAH. Guess it's hot dogs for dinner!

    nope, nothing! The smell of gone-off chicken is the worst..and I've smelt my share of terrible things!

    Library Thing is like Facebook for people who like to collect books. Its an online cataloging service where you can list the books you have read or bought, share your opinions and reviews of those books with others and see what other people are reading.

    Anyone else here got any food allergies. I'm allergic to Shellfish. Would love to try Lobster and any number of Shellfish but they will forever be forbidden to me :(

    So yesterday evening after work I went to meet a friend for dinner but one thing led to another and 'dinner' turned out to be a packet of those diet crisps and a mini tub of hummous eaten under the table so the bar man wouldn't see me and give out to me for my heinous BYO Snacking. This resulted in the bottle of wine we split going directly to my head and when I came home my head had an amazing idea. "Why, MissF, you've seen those banana paleo 'pancakes' people make. Why not whip up a batch of those for breakfast tomorrow. You can eat them on the bus and everyone will think you are so cool'

    So.

    I toasted enough pumpkin seeds to start my own commercial pumpkin farm if the paleo pancakes lost their appeal and mushed 2 very ripe bananas and an egg together. Then threw all of that plus a load of dried cherries into a frying pan. Funnily enough - 2 giant bananas and 1 egg heated in a pan just becomes hot mush and not pancakes. Who would EVER have thunk it. While shovelling my hot, seeded mush around the pan I had a brain wave. Blue masa. I have a bag of virtually unused blue masa. Why not firm this up with a handful of blue masa and get some 'that girl sure does own some uncommon flour, I wish I was her friend' cred going on the bus tomorrow. So in it goes, stirry stirry, I get the wine sleeps and head off to bed and wake up this morning to this

    After eating a dodgy oyster over 10 years ago, I can no longer eat oysters unfortunately. You never lose the bug apparently.

    Apart from that I'm 100% food tolerant! :)

    That was amazing...It was a food disaster but comedy gold.

    By the way on a similar note, I recently discovered banana+oat biscuits. It's probably the only decent two ingredient recipe I've ever made, made with banana and oats. I have started adding some maple syrup, but it can be modified with almost anything (choc chips, cinnamon, brown sugar, spices, etc, etc). Very low cal and filling. I make it the night before if i know i'll be in a rush for breakfast.
