I get that he needed a break alright but I question the logic of starting your season in unfamiliar surroundings. It seems that his schedule is being dictated more by the sponsors invites that he can get to events in the States rather than anything else.

As he says, it was this more than anything else that caused his schedule issues last year as well. I suppose his invites are more solid this year and he has been able to plan better, hence him skipping the desert. I do like that he's fully backing himself to succeed in the States.

I see he is playing the much tougher South Course today so no need to panic just yet.

I think he just wants a good crack at the US, while he is starting in unfamiliar surroundings, he probably thinks this will all help him get very familiar with golf over there and that it pays off in the long run.

I would be happy if he made just made a few cuts over the next while, in the hope that he starts firing by the time the Masters comes around.

Here's hoping it's another good year, wheneveror wherever the good performances come.

Bit of work for Shane to do if he is to make the cut, but it's all part of the learning process.

Shane just finished his first round and clawed one back on the last to finish with a 74 (+2). He's on the easier North course this evening. Would love him to make the cut.

Probably needs a 69. Definitely no worse than 70.

1 under thru 4. Cut saying level at the moment but I'd say it would go to 1 under so he needs to pick up a few more.

he's seems to be going well today, just gone -3 thru 10, -1 for the tournament, projected cut is currently even, so hopefully he can keep it going

This is impressive from Shane. I was only hoping he would make it to the weekend to gain experience, but he has make great progress up the leaderboard. Three holes to go.

A birdie on 18 would be be very nice. Set him up for a good finish over the weekend

Your wish has been granted. Shot a 67. That's a terrific effort - well done lad. Great to have someone to cheer for over the weekend.

more chance of Ronan Rafferty coming back and winning a major imo,i said it at the time here that he was too hasty to turn pro and i beleive this has been proved. It took him 3 or 4 months before he started to do any proper physical training and it was stated in the media(could well be bs)that he was doing very little practice compared to the other pro's.
He'll be running a pro shop in 5 years imo

    Hindsight is great!

A photo from the PGA website, don't think I saw any of him over the first two days on TV?

.....and great to do well so early on in his season and in the US, where he has very little experience.

I saw him admit himself in an interview that he did not work ared enough at first after turning pro.....he thought he wasn't good enough, but it was his caddy who told him he would have to work harder.....so he got on with it. Fair play.

That was cool to watch :)

I had forgotten it went to a third playoff hole. I always remember the 2nd shot he hit on the 2nd playoff hole and forgot that that did not win it for him, lol :)

In a good spot today. Close enough that a good round will bring him right into contention. His goal yesterday morning would have been CUT and he has comfortably got inside that, so he'll be looking upwards rather than over his shoulder today.
