If you think pets are filty etc than fair enough, that's up to the person. It just makes me a bit sad when I read/hear about it because people who think that will end up missing out on a lot of joy and happiness.

And yes, I have children (well one and another on the way) and I still couldn't put a value on the love and happiness my cat brings to my and my family's life :)

What do you suggest dogs do then? The other posters have stated that their dogs poop in their own garden or that they pick up after them and dispose the poop but you still think all dog owners let their dogs "go anywhere"

Your disdain for animals has really clouded your judgement

Oh yes, when god created heaven and earth he created it fully plumbed.

You do realise that millions of people do not have access to a sewage system?

You should probably avoid holidaying in Amsterdam, the public pissoirs would upset you. London too.

So the dog craps in the street and on other peoples property?

I have regularly walked other people's dog filth into my house,it is also well known that dog and cat excreta can harbour harm full pathogens.

I'm not trying to offend anybody but to my mind dogs are pretty far from being clean.

And the money in your pocket can contain a billion times more bacteria that you have far greater chance of infecting yourself with as you handle it. Not to mention door handles on shops and buildings, handrails on public transport and your computer keyboard is probably more bacteria ridden than the sole of your shoe.

You really need to put things into perspective, you might have a negative view of animals but plenty of scientific studies have shown that living with a pet boosts the immune system, particularly if children grow up in their environment. The most dangerous place for a baby or child is a germ free home where their immune system isn't given a chance to develop. Asthmas and allergies are often cited as being reduced due to living in a home with pets. You really should read up on the benefits of pets before slating them.

    +1
I would also like to add that I have 3 cats& 2 dogs and a surly teenager, he is moody and barely speaks to us- regular teenage stuff! But he was reared with pets from he was born and the kindness he shows to all our pets would make your heart melt, it brings out a lovely side to him, I firmly believe children learn a lot from giving kindness and care to pets.

If a dog goes to the toilet in the garden of his/her owner its none of your business as long as a dog owner cleans up after their dog when out walking there is no problem.

    Okay folks,
That's enough talk about where dogs or cats poop, pee, puke, fart, shed, walk, breathe etc.
This thread has gone ludicrously off-topic and the flaming and argumentativeness os growing as a result.
    Back on-topic now please.
Do not reply to this post on-thread.
    Thanks,
    DBB

I'm guessing you've never lived with a boy or a man? Or indeed are not one yourself? There are no male humans in my house anymore, and I don't have to keep wiping the toilet seat, or mopping the floor around the toilet, where they used to constantly miss :D

Are you for real?? I am really embarrassed for you!! We have a private garden behind our house and we clean it up straight away! If she poops out on a walk I have poop bags to clean it up and put it in the bin!

I cannot believe peole have such a backward image of dogs!

Karen, honestly I would ignore the people who come on a Pet forum to troll pet owners. Those of us who also love our pets know you are a responsible pet owner and I wouldn't bother justifying anything to those morons who imply dogs poop indoors, etc.

Regarding the smell; I accept that my house smells of dog, there are dogs living here. Every living creature has a smell. When my brother complained that my house smelled of dog I pointed out that his smells of old milk and dirty nappies, so if you have no pets but have children don't be getting all holier than thou about smells.

My OH is just back from his parents, there was major upset in the house after my FIL spoke with the SIL.

Apparently she has been through hell, after a very long telephone conversation she finally came clean about the issue with her husband. It seems he has been having an affair, she found out in the 7th month of her pregnancy she has stayed in Germany with him because of the baby. My FIL wants her to come home, it now explains the hysterical behaviour and the fact that she did not want to come here to hide the situation.

All I can say is I am in shock, the whole family is in shock. The fact that she bottled something like that for so long.

Wow, that's quite a game changer.
I feel really sorry for her now!
At least it explains her erratic and odd behaviour. It really sounds like she needs her family around her now.
Who knows, she might like an oul doggy cuddle too! :)

    best thread ever

That's awful :( what terrible timing as well - pregnancy and caring for a newbirn is tough enough at the best of time. It sounds like she is just all over the place emotionally which does explain a good bit of her behaviour. Hopefully she will come home where she can get some support from family and you can all smooth things over (between yourselves, not the husband of course).

I read the 1st page of this, then couldn't be bothered reading the 22 pages in between, so skipped on to the last page, and all I can say is WOW !!

That got out of control quickly!

    ^^ likewise!
but look, your house, your rules. don't forget its your pets house too. why should they be kicked out?

My sympathies are with her, sounds like what she has been through has been horrenedous time and it may explain her behaviour it does not excuse it. I realise that it is something that is very easy for someone like me to say, I am not related to anyone in the situation. But she did lash out at innocent people for something her husband did, I hope she will realise this for her families sake and for her own sake, if she does not, in the long run ,there could be a lot of resentment harboured for/by the whole family.

    Wow.

    What a shocker.

Am I sympathetic? Not yet. Well maybe a little...

She still said some hurtful stuff. And what was all that about the OP having to pay for the MIL's trip to Germany? That was plain rudeness.

Karen I really dont know what your next step is now. I would bet when your SIL comes home now it will be to stay and not for a holiday.
Of coarse the thought of her keeping that to herself upsets you, but who knows what any of us would do in the same situation. I would say it was shame and embarresment more than anything that she kept it to herself.
At leas nowt it's all out in the open and things will probably sort themselves out as regards the dogs

Meh sucks to be her and all but doesn't excuse her behaviour. And as for the MIL? No excuse for her either. Id stay well out of it

To the people who disagree with the OP, try telling this lad he is kicked out of his house for a week so the SIL can come stay.....

He lives here and is a member of the family, if someone doesn't like that and dont want to come i wont loose sleep over it!

I feel like I am writing a script for a soap opera! When I started this thread I never thought when I started this thread I never thought the out come would be this.

You weren't to know, Karen! I did think (as did others) several pages back, the girl wasn't dealing with a full deck. Now we know why :( Poor cow. To find out her darling hubby was cheating whilst she was pregnant must've been a real kick in the gut. It really explains the irrational behaviour.

Maybe she can now come home, where she can get support during this very difficult time. I'd keep well out of it now. Let the family sort this out, and don't mention the animals any more. I still wouldn't have her to stay, but be in the background ready to help and support if need be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭sillysmiles

Now that's is all come out in the open hopefully tensions will resolve.

I would have her stay with ye if she wants to, but on the same conditions as always - that your pets stay.

Wow. Karen, you have some crazy family. I feel indescribably sorry for your sister-in-law, as I can't imagine how she feels. But on the other hand, she has been kinda crazy. Hope this works out ok for all of you.

They have stayed with us before but that was before they had a child and there was no problem but now she claims he could contract something from our filthy animals as she put it!

Presumably they will require that you sterilise the entire house, since your "filthy" animals will have left their infestation behind them if they are boarded somewhere.

I wonder how they think kids can possibly survive on farms etc.
