Alot of politicians especially seem to despise the media and assume that they are some sort of corporate giant out there to ruin our lives.

I think they're great. At one point i wanted to work for them as a journalist. Informative, sometimes witty, always interesting. the world would be a worse place without them. I include the Denis O Brien/RTE side of things. I realise its popular to take a swipe on them but I for one like having news and information out there on whats going on.

Funny how they choose what to make a big deal about and what to ignore all the same.

I get confused when you make a post and you're not even mildly annoyed.

Sometimes informative, sometimes witty, sometimes interesting.

    Here's a test.
In any news event of which you have any personal knowledge, there will always be a mistake of fact in it somewhere of greater or lesser degree.

Give me informative over witty or even interesting any day. Unfortunately fact-based information is often what is lost among the strive to be populist.

You'll find that these politicians are the ones who are not in Government and/or not aligned with whatever Dennis O'Brien wants this week. :D

I have a lot of issues with the likes of RTE and BBC but when you look at what they're offered in America you realise it really could be a lot worse.

    Meh,

The media today (Journal.ie, breakingnews.ie) Is very agenda driven, constantly trying to peddle the authors viewpoint on the general public.

Bad as our media is, yeah, we have a long way to go to that , thankfully.

But DOB needs to be restrained from eating this country whole. Something off about that fella.

F the media. The vision of the world they present is so distorted and saturated with advertising or the influence of commercial agendas that it bares only slight resemblance to the real world we inhabit. This isn't a trivial matter either, the media regularly portrays issues like for instance climate change in a manner that suggests the issue is still up for legitimate debate, they give air time to the most extreme characters at the expense of the middle ground.

Greatest safest richest healthiest time to be alive in the history of human civilisation. You wouldn't know it listening to the media though.

I think OP is just trying to butter up the Herald hacks who trawl boards for stories.

cast your mind back to the fateful night when rte cut back to the studios instead of letting the tv licence payers see the outcome of Vinnys questioning

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_KHkItNhr8

remember that the licence paying Irish people had to turn over to BBC to hear the waffling answers and diversions!!

to get the irish news we need to watch bbc, to get american news we need to watch rt or al-Jazeera etc etc etc

Lolerama on RT. Even their own presenters can't handle their bullshiz.

I worked with a northwest radio station for work experience that will remained unnamed but you can have a guess which one.

Every 3 hours, I "updated", recycled the same new stories on the website to keep the hits going, all sourced from Reuters and INN. This was it, this was news and then I realised if its like this on the bottom floor, could you imagine the laziness with the reputed companies?

People were miserable and seeing the faces behind some of the local characters left me desponded. All the bloody faux outrage and grumpiness and then thinking they were saving the world, I expect most of them will have heart problems in the future.

I'd always being interested in this line of work, but I got the PLC and did a proper real job that adds to the world. The media is just too damn self congratulatory and paradoxically contraian but only about the most trivial of things and with the vaguest and safest of sermons.

The people who would be great journalists are not becoming them anymore, they're leaving for youtube or other ways to provide info to demographic that needs it. They'd be willing to give it away anonymously without name, In light of that an opinion of the average self anointed world saving journalist is as dulled as an average comment on a 5million + youtube video.

Anyway that's enough of a rant for now

I think DOB is the leader of the illuminate and that account for everything :D

In all seriousness the media in Ireland is not that bad and they are very transparent in the position they take. I don't like the Sunday indo though.
