So LVG has effectively said that he is satisfied that the current crop of players are sufficient for top 4. He has more than enough time to decide if any of the defenders are not up to the task and thus replace them but decided against it.

He has no more excuses. This is the team we are going to challenge with.

He didn't decide the current crop are good enough. He decided that he couldn't get anyone better than the current crop in January.

The Premier Inn near OT? The fastest way is by taxi. If your in the city center you can get a train from the airport into Piccadilly.

The one near OT yes. Is it far by taxi?

    About 15 - 20 mins.

Do you imply that current crop aren't good enough?

Because while there are problems, that squad, if managed properly, is still good enough for top four.

If I email the Premier Inn will they book those on advance for me or should I ring/email myself?

Just book yourself. It takes about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Match days or rush hour could be double that but Friday lunchtime shouldn't be too bad.
    Enjoy the trip!

If he really wanted someone he could have got them. This is not Scunthorpe looking for a player.

He night not have been able to get Hummels etc but he could have got Vlaar etc but they took the decision that what they had was sufficient.

No other way to look at it.

Of course, I expect them to then buy in summer to bring up to the level for league and CL title but the aim is clearly top 4 this year and he has decided that what he has is good enough.

I hope he is right. I also hope that he now gets them playing properly

Vlaar is injured .If LVG couldn't get someone in who was an improvement on the current CB's I don't see the point of going for a stop gap.
I fully expect CB to be signed in the summer but it probably wasn't possible to get who was wanted now.

My view is United know who they want, they have been in contact with those they want and know where they stand and the deals will be done in the summer.

They didn't want to add the players that they don't want in 4 months time.

Vlaar would add to the problems that he is trying to resolve, adding more deadwood to the existing pile. He is clearing them off and you want us to add more.

Woodward said whatever signing that will be made won't be short term, so there is no use in signing Vlaar. Our defense is good enough for top 4, just need to stay fit and play a system that suits them rather than playing crap 3-5-2.

That's cool and all but at this stage given the outlay of funds we should have a squad capable of winning the league.

In fairness personnel wise we are not too far off. It's funny we need to upgrade the CBs but we have looked reasonably solid for most of the season from a defensive point of view, our issue has been dominating games and creating chances. I think the side is unbalanced from a midfield point of view, LVG doesn't seem to know his best first 11 and we are into the second half of the season, also unsure what system to play. A recipe for disaster.

By that logic if you spent 250 million and bought Ronaldo and messi and put them in to Aston villa, dosent mean they will win the leauge.

Yes we spent money, dosent mean average players like our defense suddenly becomes 150milloon euro better.
If shaw, raf, and rojo had stayed fit for the whole season we would be closer to the top.

I'm willing to stake my life on that hypothetical situation.

Could you give me a breakdown of what changes you would have made to the squad to assemble a league winning team in the last 6 months?

You can have £150M and do estimates of what you think it would have cost to buy player X, Y, Z etc and the probability that you would have got them.

I'd be interested because I think you're talking nooooooooooonsense.

Looking to go to a game before the end of the season at OT, How do I go about getting tickets? I've never been is there a guide somewhere or a thread I could look at for some advice?

    Thanks

I'd be playing as strong a team as possible tonight, within reason of course, obviously if he doesn't want any players playing 3 games in the space of a week they should be rested tonight or at the weekend.

What's the betting we are back with 5 across the back for the West Ham game?

    Valdes
    Raf Jones Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney RVP

Is my ideal. Van Persie looked better at the weekend, Rooney looked lost. But who am I kidding, clearly he is in midfield until end of the season, and another year in Rooney's career utterly squandered .

It's actually at the point of annoying me. He's totally useless in there, and we are paying 250+k a week for a striker struggling to get back to his best, while arguably one of the leagues most consistent and best strikers is fumbling around in our midfield.

We won the league in 2013. We haven't lost my too many players since then. We spent more money on players than most clubs in the world in the meantime. We have the highest wage bill in the premier league and one of the highest in the world. We should be challenging for the league title and if not, why not!

Raf was playing last night so I wouldn't think he be playing tonight probably be on the bench at most but id say he be ready for west ham on Sunday.

i thought rooney played bad on saturday when i watched it on tv but my friends were at the game and thought he played really well anyone else at the match and think this?

I'd imagine the difference is more down to opinion, then viewing perspective. Rooney has looked utterly ineffective in midfield after his initial 1-2 games.

I'd casually assumed it was on BBC, but havn't actually checked the listings.

*Edit: Above says Bt Sport, which will piss me off no end if true.

Mainly, imo, because we lost Rio and Vidic, without replacing them adequately.

Also, and I said it at the time, it was the worst United side to win the title - we got the results through the season but the midfield was poor and was getting exposed as such towards the end of the season. That win papered over the cracks in the squad, imo. issues we have only begun to sort.

If LVG doesn't rate Herrera, as seems the case, then we need another 2 or 3 midfielders rather than 1 or 2. We still need a centre back or two. A backup (or first choice) right back. A bit of pace into the attacking (either winger or forward) too, is required imo.

Compared to the top sides, our squad is poor and unbalanced. the summer spend did not address that.

I hope Falcao starts tonight ,he has been playing very well the last few weeks but not getting the goals.tonight should be a great opportunity to score a few.

    No place for Falcao?
