Engine no. for VRT (Audi)

Hi all, looking for some technical knowledge, one of the lads at work is VRTing his Audi, he's looking for the Engine number and can't find anything on the car other than the VIN, any suggestions where he might find this?

On the engine. The engine number is normally part of the VIN number.

take a look in the boot well. there should be a sticker in there where the spare tyre is that lists out the engine and gearbox codes, and option codes for the car.

Yes but that's missing, this is for the DVLA replacement form so it can be VRT'd.

So your friend bought an A5 with no V5 and the engine number missing ?

The Engine number should be on a sticker at the front of the engine bay, in or around the plastic covers covering the belts

Did he? As I understand it he bought the car and lost the V5, engine number isn't missing btw, it just helps to know where to look, but thanks for your input.
