In-lamb ewes on lush grass

    Hello all,

I have a field of fairly green, lush grass (its been closed up since about Oct I'd say) that I want to graze. The ewes are in-lamb, but I don't know if this makes much difference?

I have heard that sheep can get grass tetany, but have never seen it. I assume if I put in a hay feeder with a few bales, I should be ok?

Oh - I know it would be great if I could save it til after the ewes lamb, but not an option, needs to be cleaned out before 1st March.

    Thanks.

You are right.. Be better for ewes with lambs but if it needs to be grazed, open the gate and put on the kettle.. I wouldnt bother with hay/silage as they dont need it and they wont touch it.. My only worry would b singles getting too big if they are in too good grass for a long time..

Its not that big a field, so 'a long time' wont be an issue ;)

I had one die from grass tetany last year. But it was end of May time and she had twin lambs under her. If I had a hi mag bucket under her it might not of happened. I'll be sure to have one this year.
