Is there a gif of this? Or a video I suppose.
My recording lost signal briefly during that fight. So I'm a few minutes.

I don't have a gif, but a few times during the fight and repeatedly in the third, Pendred did like a side-to-side shuffle before throwing a shot, mostly leg kicks. Was very awkward looking, like most of his striking.

But didn't deserve the win on what basis? Boring is irrelevant when judges are scoring a fight.

His stand up is dire and even in the grapple he done f all.

He could of easily got knocked out.

Isn't he a failed rugby player only new enough to mma?

He could have..and his stand up is dire. But I dont think Spencer did much either. He wobbled him in round 1 but little else. I still think Cathal scraped it.

Failed rugby player, possibly, but he had his first pro fight 6 years ago and was the Cage Warriors welterweight champion before doing TUF, so he's not new.

    Jesus fúcking christ... This thread...

I much preferred the place when it was the same 20 posters and we had the fantasy league going.

People spouting ill informed garbage in here is the worst.

On topic a sec, Cathal Pendred is the worst fighter on the UFC roster by a country mile. He doesn't deserve to be in the octagon.

ban the rest and we'll start over again ;)

not too far off it but the worst to have put a 3 fight win streak together

The only thing I can give him credit for is that he has heart. Nothing else.

some heart though, man is he tough

It's a matter of opinion at the end of the day. Not saying you're wrong, you can't be, it's your opinion but I personally believe he has no place in the UFC.

For me, I think the only reason he got a contract was because of the Irish fight card. Without that, I doubt he would have been signed and to be honest, I'd be amazed if his contract was renewed after his next fight (assuming he's on a 4 fight deal that is).

He worked hard to get where he is, should realise by now he's not at the same level as them, take a step back and sign with someone else after the contract runs out, put in the hard work - really hard work - focusing on his standup a bit more and then when he's ready, try come back to the UFC.

hard to believe they wont offer him another fight deal if he manages to pull
another win out of his arse though
I'd say he can afford to lose one max before he's dropped
itll be interesting to see who they pair him up with next
I want to see him improve so much but I doubt he'll improve a lot no matter
    what he does
I'm sure he's done everything possible and worked on every aspect of his name knowing full well where his weaknesses lie and still little improvement

someone posted here about the luck of the irish...seems that way although maybe even more so in his last fight

I thought spencer was robbed but you what I'm going to watch it again and like someone here said, I'll watch it with the sound off, maybe I was swayed by rogan also, honestly dont know

Anyone else really impressed with how Conor leapt over the fence? Not that easy to do. He made it look like a small garden wall. Very elastic and springy dude!

The way he got up and over it so quickly, I thought he was falling over it after jumping.

this lad shouldve been cut ages ago
interesting who he's lost to most recently also in umalatov and spencer

pendred could possibly win this one if the ufc don't give him a better guy

christ, i just looked at his record, he's 2-7 in his last 9 fights, how is he still with the ufc? He hardly sets cards alight

I cant see how spencer was robbed considering how close it was. That being said I dont agree with pendred getting the second round. He did nothing bar the take down in the last 30sec that he did nothing with. spencer landed some good strikes.

I think the internet consternation is because of his bad striking, take downs that he did nothing with, his pushing spencer up against the cage for extended periods...compared against some intermittent crisp striking from spencer. It seems that the judges like when you place a fighter on the ground over good strikes

People might think this is harsh but Pendred needs to lose his next fight. Everyone who has ever lost a fight has said that they came back stronger and that losing was a good thing for their career.

I doubt he's watching re runs of his last 3 fights in the UFC but if he was to lose one you'd be pretty certain he would. Try and pick up from his mistakes etc.

Scudzilla nailed it with sending him to a boxing camp for months. Forget everything else.

I wish the guy success in his career but he's really got to get the head down (no pun intended)

Anyone else notice although Penard striking is bad , his opponents seemto really hesitate to engage with him ,I reckon he must hit like a mule eventhough it look's horrible and telegraphed

Even his takedowns are poor technique wise but he still get people down,He really must be a beast of a man strength wise,

Although his striking makes Lenard Garcia look like Anderson Silva

Also i seen himself and that Cm punk chap haven words on twitter,
Could that be a first fight for Cm punk ? a guy on a 3 fight win streak that Cm Punk has a chance aginst ?

I don't think people realise the level a UFC fighter is at.

Cathal was the Cage Warriors Welterweight champ. Essentially the best professional welterweight in Europe out side of the UFC. He has beaten every pro in Europe put in front of him, including good strikers like Che Mills.

Cathals hands are bad, particularly for the level he is at, but lets put in context. He would mangle most amateur fighters in his division. Let alone a guy who has not even fought once and is a blue belt? CM does not have a striking background either and thinks grappling is his strong point.

This is where Cathal is strongest. I would not give CM a round to be honest.

What exactly is a failed rugby player?

Didnt make any of the academy teams even though his class mates Cian Healy and Ian Keatley did, this is when he turned to MMA. he has said this before in numerous interviews.

che mills had zero take down defence though
    it was embarrassing to watch

I *do* think they might feed Cathal to CM... and I think it might be a horrible mistake for them! If Cathal beats him (and say what you like, he's not been beaten in what, 11 fights?) that's a HUGE feather in his cap. Its also a disaster for CM and the UFC.

Actually, I would totally buy that card. :)

You could also say Cathal has very effective take downs. But seems like you are a glass is half empty kind of guy.

My point in mentioning Che Mills is that some people are saying as soon as he faces a decent striker yada yada yada.

effective take downs against a guy with zero take down defence, fair enough

I think spencer is a better striker than mills yada yada yada

Can you tell me how in many of Cathal's fights he has not taken his opponent down? Surely they cannot all have zero take down defence....

I am referring to mills and mills only

he definitely over achieved in beating spencer imo but fair play to him for
    winning three on the bounce
id have said a year back that cathal winning 3 ufc bouts would have been next
    to impossible
