Do you need to have a Cycling Ireland licence to be a member of a cycling club. Do or should a club insist all members have a licence. What are the benefits??

For our club, yes. Just the basic leisure is required. The reason is insurance.

Lots of clubs have IVCA members as well as CI members. In addition my own club permits non-cycling members. It is important though that anyone going on club spins is insured. IVCA and CI membership provides insurance when cycling. Allowing uninsured riders on official spins leaves the club open to potential claims should one of those uninsured riders cause an accident. CI insurance does cover riders for up to 3 spins with a club before taking up CI membership
