Lack of flesh to help absorb a shot. It's not all that odd a comment. You can be ripped and toned (too much) making you are still very vulnerable if hit properly.

I would be a boxing fan and have not really watched much MMA ever mainly due to the time it airs at so it was only the mcgregor hype that pulled me in.

Thoroughly enjoyed it I have to say, McGregor is great for UFC and great for Irish fans to have an athlete about to compete at the pinnacle of his weight division. I see nothing to dislike about him tbh , he promotes himself brillantly, creates huge entertainment and seems well capable of backing up his talk. Most importantly as is the case with many boxing feuds after the contest you can see he is respectful of the other fighter.

It looked to me like he utterly dismantled someone who is in the worlds top ten. That's got to put him in there with a shout against Aldo, can he win it, who knows , perhaps it's to soon but we should enjoy it while it lasts. Fantastic athlete, fantastic personality, the very best of luck to him

Mcgregor has no cushion on his body. Once you get someone giving him consistent punches to the body he won't last.

Yeah he should start working on a big beer belly to cushion the blows.

    You got it.

Conor needs to get some beer belly going if he wants to be the real champ.

He'll have plenty of time to once Aldo tears his legs off.

Thought it may have improved after the fight but its got worse. Think I'll leave it for another day or two!

Maybe. Rarely see a fat man dropped with a body shot....Although a beer belly may mean he can't make weight and is that bit less athletic. Stick to the way he is.

You think it's just a foregone conclusion?

You don't think in all the time that McGregor has been looking at Aldo and the 5 months between now and their fight McGregor won't have noticed Aldo's kicks and look for some way to neutralise them? You've noticed them but no one else has.

If Siver, a class below Mcgregory, can catch him with a kick and almost deck him than Aldo will take his legs off. That's what I'm hoping happens anyways.

He should give tank abbott a call for his next training camp.

The hate is strong in this one.

Love how much he is in your head.

That's the great things about individual fights - very unpredictable. BTW, didn't see Siver 'almost deck' McGregor.

Impressive performance from McGregor last night. Siver's a tough guy but Conor destroyed him. He's got so much power for a FW its ridiculous. He can finish anyone in the division with that power, including Aldo, if he can get in and out regularly. Not sure if he'll be able to do it against the champ but its going to be fun watching the buildup and seeing him try. In any case I think last night proved that even if he loses to Aldo, he won't be going anywhere.

Great performance from Holohan aswell. Parkes and Pendred were meh (at best).

I think, with the beer belly stuff, we may have reached "peak stupid". :)

Still delighted for Paddy, he's like Dhalsim from Street Fighter with those big bendy legs of his...

True, but what if Conor gives Aldo consistent punches to the body? Aldo has no cushion there, so Conor will win. :pac:

Silva is really tall so Diaz will have to hit him proportionally MORE times to do the same amount of damage to any given area. Therefore Silva will win. :)

But seriously, its more fun to educate than to mock. Its true that someone having a big gut helps to cushion blows. But given the weight restrictions of the division, every pound you bring in has to do the most for you, and fat only does "cushioning" ... its otherwise a drag on your reserves carrying it around, makes you heavy, slow, sucks blood and replaces muscle etc

Muscle on the other hand, is actually a better protection in general than fat. Tensed muscle does a remarkably good job of providing natural armour to your mid section and innards. Plus it has the benefit of also being offensive for knees, punches, kicks, grappling etc.

Since you kinda *have* to bring your skeleton and organs into the ring the weight decision comes down to fat vs muscle and that's not generally a contest (mind you, Big Country would beg to differ but there's always one :) )

How much did McGregor win in those mickey mouse bouts before? Has he ever declared these earnings with welfare. I find it hard to believe that he was full time looking for a job if he was training all day on the dole.

Whatever he got given on the dole I'm sure he's already paid back and more in taxes since.

Reading through this thread I thought you were trolling at first but knowing your history from the FSA forum you are unfortunately 100% serious. Worrying how you can lack even a basic understanding of two entirely different topics. Can you let me know which other forums you post in so I know to avoid them. Cheers.

He's 2 divisions below him in weight. He'd never make the cut

Just finished watching the whole event, early prelims included (couple of good fights there). Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Plenty of action and controversy. Roll on Saturday night!

I don't know how I managed not to find out what happened.
