Hi, just wondering if there are any other modems out there that can be used with eircom eFibre. I got in contact with one of the reps and they said the modem must be VDSL2 compatible. I've tried searching, but returned with nothing. Just wondering if anyone else has replaced their modem and if possible, a link to purchase it?

    Thanks.

Would have been the 2nd result before you posted. Clearly searched high and low.

My bad. I had only googled for a VDSL2 modem so I would just have to plug it in and flick around with a few things rather than bridging a router etc etc

You can use any suitable device - they are expensive, > €100. The F1000 is a decent device with the right software installed. It is used by a lot of the network gurus on the kits dot co dot uk forum and there is a lively discussion of the F1000 performance which is highly rated. You will need to unlock your Eircom F1000 and update the software in order to turn it into a proper device, see the unlock your F1000 thread on these forums.

Ah, so if I do go about unlocking it, will the range be any better?

Nope. Range is due to the lack of a real antenna.

If all you need to do is improve range buy a decent access point and keep the F1000 as router/modem.

Thank you. Any suggestions on a decent access point?

Archer C7 has superb range and is probably the best value for money out there:

Wifi does improve with recent firmware. You can also set 802.11 Mode N Only. That will help too.

    Network Settings - Wifi - Other - 802.11 mode.
