a couple of papers tomorrow running De Gea to Madrid stories.

Star saying they are going to be 35million - would be really 'United' to let him for that little...
Express saying we are willing to let him go to get Bale.

I wonder if Bale would be better than Di Maria up front, he is quick too....

At this rate we'll sign Gareth Bale to play the right side of the back three.

I remember I used to put Di Maria up top when I was playing FIFA 12-14 using him for those lobbed through balls.

Van Gaal: 'Today we played like Queens Park Raisins in the first half and that's not good' (raisins isn't a typo!)

Just saw motd highlights, that's all I saw...was de Gea our best player again?

Also, having seen a number of digs at Valencia on the board I was surprised to see him lay on a nice pass for the Fellaini goal. He's been one our less bad players of late IMO.

The formation and player positions is nuts...I see talk of transfers again here...we have spent a fortune yet are not getting the best out of the expensive signings we have made.

I can't understand why, if he is unconvinced by our defence that he doesn't play 2 centre halves with Carrick filling in as required. We have the players fit to play the supposed preferred 433 or a 442 diamond so I don't know why lvg isn't doing it.

Speaking to MUTV after the win at Loftus Road, Fellaini said of his compatriot: "He hasn't played a lot this season, so I like to look after him."

That's so nice. It's great to have players like him around for the young ones.

Especially from a man who got absolute dog's abuse last season for being injured.

Fellaini's been immense at times this season. Changed the game today.

Valencia was crap today. The amount of passes played out to him with no end result was unreal. Rafael, jones or smalling would surely have managed more crosses than him if played there.

Felliani was crap last season. Give him praise when he deserves it but don't try to whitewash last season, he was rubbish and it wasn't because of injury.

The whole team were rubbish in fairness

And Fellaini got booed by his own clubs' supporters

Fair play to him I'm happy he's starting to get some praise

Mirror and others going with De Gea plus £50 million for Bale, http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-united-plot-gareth-bale-4995117

The battle for 4th spot is going to be very tight. Van Gaal needs to drop this ego trip and ditch the 3-5-2. Di Maria up front, well that's just silly too.

I think the only time Fellaini was booed was in that friendly against Valencia at OT.

He came back a new man after the World cup.

As much as I love De Gea I really hope if we do sell him we get a fortune for him. Or get a massive discount on Gareth Bale. Somehow I just dont see us selling De Gea yet. He did come from Athletico after all and maybe he feels like he would be betraying Athletico fans going to Real. I dont know.

Sick of United selling every player on the cheap.

Have an unjustified love for Falcao in a United shirt. Would rather him up front than RVP which is horrible to say but I just think he can only get better, where RVP seems to be getting worse.

At least 35 million is a sensible number....the sort of bid you might actually see. I swear, the people in here the other day suggesting 80 million was a realistic amount for De Gea were completely nuts and devoid of any semblance of reality. Not even Neuer would command that much.

14 years ago, Buffon went for £32m. Now add on transfer inflation over those 14 years, De Gea's age, the fact that he'll be Spain's number 1 in the not too distant future and his current form and 80m isn't what someone who was "completely nuts and devoid of any semblance of reality" would suggest.

We're not nuts here, its football transfers that are, tbf.

Meh it's all relative. Player is hugely valuable to us and his performances being excellent mean we probably over value him. His age and ability mean £35m is a great deal for Real but United don't need to money so could potentially hold for a lot more!

I've seen Stirling being valued at 50+ million and again it's due to his importance why Liverpool fans think he is worth that much. I don't have a problem with people saying don't let him go for less than x, because if we don't need the money then demand an obscene amount of money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Liverpool fans might value Sterling at 50+ million.....but that is irrelevant as nobody is going to pay that.

It's perfectly understandable to say you dont want De Gea sold and it would take a huge bid.......but does anybody really think Real Madrid are going to bid 80 million for De Gea?

£45-£55 Million is likely around the region, the most important factor being the player and his willingness to go. Throwing the toys out of the pram and forcing a move like say Suarez wouldnt seem like his character though. Re: Bale, Those speculative swap deals are so rare in reality

I wasn't the happiest with LVG's managerial performance in the Southampton game and was quite frustrated at him losing that game for us. That feeling was riling up again today by halftime versus QPR but to be fair, he demonstrated in the 2nd half that he isn't just as stubborn as I was beginning to think he was.

Although it was he who put us in a spot of bother initially by fielding 3-5-2 with top players out of position, it was LVG's tactical change that changed the game for us. That cannot be said too much as of late unfortunately. Both substitutes scored and the 4-4-2 switch proved what everyone knows.

However his non-use of Ander Herrera is not really excusable for me, especially not with the way the MF is performing in his absence. And throwing Herrera on in injury time? Disgraceful. To me, Ander Herrera sitting on the bench watching two number 10s predominantly failing in CM is in the ball park of Paul Pogba sitting watching Rafael get shoehorned into CM and Paul Scholes come out of retirement to play there. We won't have the talent of Herrera for too long at the club if this continues.

I was delighted to see Wilson put in a great performance and get his goal in the end. He previously hadn't done enough with the minutes afforded to him this season but hopefully that goal will do wonders for his confidence. Would like to see he and Falcao get a start together vs Cambridge next week, with Rooney used from the bench if needs be.

Moving on, it is clear from the post match interview that LVG knows the benefits of 4-4-2, but doersn't think the team is currently defensively strong enough to play it. I do not think it is the end of 3-5-2 (5-3-2) but I would be far more forgiving of LVG trying utilise the next run of games to implement the 4-4-2, and maybe concede more goals in the meantime, than play absolute drivel and struggle using the 3-5-2 in upcoming games against teams like Leicester and Burnley.

Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini - guys of varying degrees of quality who can currently play better than adequately in CM for us. Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata have absolutely no business next nor near that list.

Don't understand LVG insistence on 352. He said that 442 creates more chances but leaves us vunerable at the back. But with the attacking talent in the team would we not be better off capitalising on that and forcing the other team onto the back foot, rather than the current philosophy or setting out with the aim of not conceding.

I know that great teams are built with a solid back line, but since we currently are short in that area why highlight the problem by giving away the best weapon we do have.

I think the Leicster defeat really hit LVG and he is determined that that will not happen again. He just seems to have forgotten that we actually were ahead in that game prior to the collapse and in his, admittedly, working plan of getting tighter at the back has blunted us terribly at the front.

Teams now realise this and so just pack their middle to cut out the crosses and then break towards our back line.

Add to that the transfers we have seen in the last year; Lukaku and Herrera both moved for round the same price quoted for De Gea, while Bale, Suarez and DiMaria went for twice it. Transfer fees have massively inflated in the last few years and I would argue it's more devoid of reality not to be able to see that transfer fees have doubled in recent years than what they used to be. 35m for De Gea would be an absolute steal in today's market for a player of De Gea's ability, age and profile.

    He wears Puma boots though.

Maybe he has a contract with both or maybe he has no contract with either?

If you think de Gea should go for a number equivalent to the Buffon fee adjusted for inflation you'd need to have a bit of a think imo.

If he hasn't signed a contract by the summer and if real want him and he wants to go there is no way Utd will receive much more than 30 million. Personally I think he will sign a new contract but suggesting 80 million as things stand is nuts.
